South China Sea · Malacca Strait · Indian Ocean · Gulf of Aden · Bab-el-Mandeb · Red Sea · Suez Canal · Mediterranean Sea
From Xiamen to Mersin, cargo moves out of Xiamen's Haicang and Songyu terminals on the Taiwan Strait, crosses a Bab el-Mandeb and Suez passage into the Mediterranean, and is discharged at a port that checks the IMO class on its lists against the container and penalises every mismatch.
Türkiye wants the entry summary declaration 24 hours before the container is loaded in China. Below are 5 route-specific points to plan for, what we do about each, and the documents to have ready before booking.
What we need to start
Route profile
Fujian's battery gateway, handling more than 90% of the province's lithium battery exports, with 10-minute online packaging appraisal for compliant products and the Taiwan Strait's winter monsoon on the doorstep.
The Turkish entry summary is due before loading in China, and the importer's TAP, TAREKS and GEKAP duties come before sale.

Where this route gets difficult
Listed from loading in Xiamen to import into Turkey, each with what we do about it.
Xiamen Customs now issues the packaging use-appraisal certificate for lithium batteries through the single window after automatic pre-review matching: about 10 minutes in the case reported in August 2026, against roughly half a day for the old on-site inspection. The fast path is only for products that pass pre-review as compliant and valid; anything that does not match goes back to inspection.
What Anxin does: We check the product data, UN38.3 summary and packaging codes against the application before it is submitted, so the certificate comes through pre-review rather than falling back to an on-site check.
The JMIC's September 2026 update rated the northern Red Sea and Suez Canal MODERATE, with the canal operating in both directions and container lines returning selectively, and the Eastern Mediterranean LOW. The risk on this corridor is concentrated at the southern entrance of the Red Sea rather than at the canal.
What Anxin does: We check before each booking whether the service has changed routing since the last quote.
Mersin International Port wants every dangerous-goods container shown with its IMO class number on both loading and discharge lists, and charges an IMO label penalty per container for any difference between the lists and physical checks, or for a box declared dangerous only after discharge. A class 9 container booked as general cargo is caught this way.
What Anxin does: We book lithium batteries as class 9 from the start and check the placards in the sealed-container photos, so the discharge list for Mersin and the box agree.
In Türkiye a distributor may not sell a battery brand that has no collection system behind it and must take back waste batteries free of charge, so the brand's registration decides whether stock can go on sale.
What Anxin does: We ask the importer to confirm the brand is registered in its collection system before the first shipment leaves Xiamen.
Türkiye links battery imports to waste collection: the importer joins TAP, with a board decision within 30 days, and only then requests the environmental compliance permit through TAREKS.
What Anxin does: Before booking we ask the Turkish importer for its TAP membership and permit status, so a first-time importer starts the 30-day process before the goods leave Xiamen.

Documents & compliance
Anxin reviews documents supplied by the shipper, manufacturer and importer; it does not issue test reports, safety data sheets or import certificates.

Most delays on this route start with a document that exists but does not match: a UN number, a model name or a package count that differs between the Xiamen filings, the carrier booking and the Turkey import file. We check the three against each other before the booking is confirmed.
Carriers we book with
Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.
Risk & mitigation
| Risk | Where | Mitigation | Who acts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Application fails pre-review and falls back to on-site inspection | Xiamen Customs | Data checked against the application first | Anxin with the manufacturer |
| IMO label penalty for a list mismatch | Mersin International Port | Class 9 booked and placarded from origin | Carrier / shipper |
| Importer not in a collection system; no environmental permit | Turkish importer | TAP and permit status checked before booking | Importer |
Questions
At least 24 hours before the container is loaded at the departure port in China, filed electronically to the customs office of discharge.
Often: in September 2026, 57% of Asia–Mediterranean services used the Red Sea routing. Bab el-Mandeb was rated a SUBSTANTIAL threat by the JMIC on 24 September 2026, so we confirm each service's routing before booking.
For products that pass automatic pre-review, Xiamen Customs issues it through the single window; the case reported in August 2026 took about 10 minutes, against about half a day for the old on-site inspection. Products that do not pass pre-review still need inspection.
