From Xiamen to Koper, cargo moves from Fujian's battery makers through Xiamen port, crosses a Bab el-Mandeb and Suez passage into the Mediterranean, and is discharged at the port of Koper.

The Slovenia side follows the EU battery and customs pre-filing rules. The 6 points below are particular to this lane; each comes with what we do and the paperwork it touches.

What we need to start

  • Xiamen export
  • Online packaging appraisal
  • EU declaration of conformity
  • Consignee EORI
  • National producer registration

Route profile

The Xiamen → Koper route in brief

Origin port

Xiamen (Haicang / Songyu)

Fujian's battery gateway, handling more than 90% of the province's lithium battery exports, with 10-minute online packaging appraisal for compliant products and the Taiwan Strait's winter monsoon on the doorstep.

Sea corridor

Asia – Mediterranean via Suez

Mediterranean services are the ones most likely to use Suez again (57% in September 2026), which puts the cargo back through Bab el-Mandeb, rated a SUBSTANTIAL threat.

Where this route gets difficult

6 pain points from Xiamen to Koper

In the order the cargo meets them: at the loading port, at sea, at Koper and at customs in Slovenia.

  1. Origin port

Energy-storage units may go on multipurpose ships

Xiamen's energy-storage transport guide 2.0 (August 2026) notes that some ESS containers are carried on multipurpose ships and requires a pre-voyage meeting with the terminal and lashing parties. It also lists the terminals with class 9 qualification: Xiamen Hyundai terminal, Yuanhai Tongda, and Haixiang berths 7–8.

What Anxin does: For ESS units we confirm early whether the carrier offers container-ship or multipurpose carriage, which qualified terminal is used, and who attends the pre-voyage meeting.

  2. Origin port

Xiamen MSA's 'one ship, one plan' for large battery cargo

Xiamen MSA offers pre-review of key DG documents, a pre-loading meeting at which ship, cargo owner, terminal and agent agree deck stowage and emergency measures, and a 'one ship, one plan' checklist from gate-in to sailing. In June 2026 it reported 104 energy-storage containers of 36 tonnes each loaded for Houston on a multipurpose ship.

What Anxin does: We send the key documents for pre-review before the formal filing and bring the stowage and emergency details the meeting will ask for.

  3. Sea corridor

The canal is open; the risk sits further south

The JMIC's September 2026 update put the northern Red Sea and the Suez Canal at MODERATE, with two-way transits and container lines selectively returning, and the Eastern Mediterranean at LOW. On this corridor the exposure lies at the southern entrance of the Red Sea, not at the canal itself.

What Anxin does: We check before each booking whether the service has changed routing since the last quote.

  4. Import country

Battery label from August 2026, QR code from February 2027

The Battery Regulation's general information label applies from 18 August 2026 (or 18 months after the label implementing act, if later), and every battery needs a QR code from 18 February 2027, linked to a battery passport for EV, LMT and industrial batteries above 2 kWh. Where the battery is too small, both go on the packaging and accompanying documents.

What Anxin does: Before booking we ask the Slovenia importer to confirm the battery category and whether the label and QR-code elements are already on the goods, and compare carton photos with that answer.

  5. Import country

Supply-chain due diligence moved to August 2027

The Battery Regulation's due diligence obligations on cobalt, lithium, nickel and natural graphite were postponed by Regulation (EU) 2025/1561 and now apply from 18 August 2027, with Commission guidelines due by 26 July 2026. Buyers in Slovenia are already asking suppliers for the supply-chain data they will need.

What Anxin does: We pass the Slovenia buyer's due diligence questions to the manufacturer and keep their answers with the shipment file; the policy itself remains the producer's responsibility.

  6. Import country

CE marking and a declaration of conformity in the right language

The importer in Slovenia carries the check: CE marking on the battery and an EU declaration of conformity, translated into the language Slovenia asks for, have both been required since 18 August 2024 for batteries entering the EU market.

What Anxin does: We ask the manufacturer in China for the declaration of conformity and a photo of the CE marking on the battery or its packaging before loading, and pass them to the Slovenia importer. We check that the documents exist and match the goods; we do not assess conformity.

Send the file once, complete

Most delays on this route start with a document that exists but does not match: a UN number, a model name or a package count that differs between the Xiamen filings, the carrier booking and the Slovenia import file. We check the three against each other before the booking is confirmed.

Carriers we book with

Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.

Common questions on the Xiamen → Koper route

The CE marking on the battery and the manufacturer's EU declaration of conformity, which must be available in the language Slovenia requires. Both have applied since 18 August 2024.

Often: in September 2026, 57% of Asia–Mediterranean services used the Red Sea routing. Bab el-Mandeb was rated a SUBSTANTIAL threat by the JMIC on 24 September 2026, so we confirm each service's routing before booking.
