This route runs through Xiamen, the port for more than 90% of Fujian's lithium battery exports, then follows a Suez corridor that Mediterranean services are using again more than any other Asia–Europe lane; at the far end is the port of Rijeka.

The Croatia side follows the EU battery and customs pre-filing rules. The 5 points below are particular to this lane; each comes with what we do and the paperwork it touches.

What we need to start

  • Taiwan Strait monsoon Oct–Apr
  • Xiamen export
  • EU declaration of conformity
  • Consignee EORI
  • National producer registration

Route profile

How Xiamen → Rijeka differs from other lanes

Origin port

Xiamen (Haicang / Songyu)

Fujian's battery gateway, handling more than 90% of the province's lithium battery exports, with 10-minute online packaging appraisal for compliant products and the Taiwan Strait's winter monsoon on the doorstep.

Sea corridor

Asia – Mediterranean via Suez

Mediterranean services are the ones most likely to use Suez again (57% in September 2026), which puts the cargo back through Bab el-Mandeb, rated a SUBSTANTIAL threat.

Where this route gets difficult

Where Xiamen → Rijeka shipments get held up: 5 points

Listed from loading in Xiamen to import into Croatia, each with what we do about it.

  1. Origin port

Xiamen's fast appraisal needs matching data

Through the single window, Xiamen Customs now issues the lithium battery packaging use-appraisal certificate after automatic pre-review matching: roughly 10 minutes in a case reported in August 2026, compared with about half a day for the former on-site inspection. Only products that pass pre-review as compliant and valid get the fast path; mismatches return to inspection.

What Anxin does: We check the product data, UN38.3 summary and packaging codes against the application before it is submitted, so the certificate comes through pre-review rather than falling back to an on-site check.

  2. Origin port

Strong winds in the Taiwan Strait from day one

Leaving Xiamen, ships are in the Taiwan Strait at once. A Chinese government weather account says the strait's funnel effect adds 1–2 Beaufort levels to the wind, and that the north-east monsoon of winter and spring brings force 7 or more on about two days in three. Lashing on container ships should be secured accordingly.

What Anxin does: From October to April we apply the CINS blocking and bracing checks strictly on stuffing photos before sealing.

  3. Sea corridor

If the service goes round Africa instead

The 43% of Mediterranean services not using the Red Sea sail round the Cape of Good Hope, then back through Gibraltar. SAMSA estimates about 200 of the 576 containers lost at sea in 2024 went overboard near the Cape, 35% of the year's total.

What Anxin does: On Cape sailings we apply the CINS blocking and bracing checks strictly on stuffing photos before sealing.

  4. Import country

A producer registration in Croatia before the first sale

The Battery Regulation makes registration national: whoever first makes batteries available in Croatia must be entered in that Member State's producer register, and the authority has up to 12 weeks to grant a complete application. A brand based outside Croatia cannot rely on an EU registration held elsewhere; it needs an authorised representative for producer responsibility in Croatia.

What Anxin does: At booking we ask which company is the producer of record in Croatia and for its registration number there, so a missing registration surfaces while the goods are still in Xiamen rather than after discharge in Rijeka.

  5. Import country

CE marking and a declaration of conformity in the right language

Since 18 August 2024 a battery sold in the EU needs the CE marking and an EU declaration of conformity from its manufacturer. The declaration has to be available in the language Croatia requires, and the importer is the one who must check both before the goods are released for sale.

What Anxin does: We ask the manufacturer in China for the declaration of conformity and a photo of the CE marking on the battery or its packaging before loading, and pass them to the Croatia importer. We check that the documents exist and match the goods; we do not assess conformity.

Before you book

Match the details first

We line up UN numbers, model names and package counts across the Xiamen filings, the booking with the carrier and the documents for Croatia before the booking is confirmed, so that a mismatch is fixed at origin rather than discovered at Rijeka.

Carriers we book with

Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.

Questions

Questions about shipping from Xiamen to Rijeka

The CE marking on the battery and the manufacturer's EU declaration of conformity, which must be available in the language Croatia requires. Both have applied since 18 August 2024.

Often: in September 2026, 57% of Asia–Mediterranean services used the Red Sea routing. Bab el-Mandeb was rated a SUBSTANTIAL threat by the JMIC on 24 September 2026, so we confirm each service's routing before booking.

For products that pass automatic pre-review, Xiamen Customs issues it through the single window; the case reported in August 2026 took about 10 minutes, against about half a day for the old on-site inspection. Products that do not pass pre-review still need inspection.
