Taiwan Strait · North Pacific · Eastern Pacific · Panama Canal · Caribbean Sea · Windward Passage · Cabot Strait · Gulf of St. Lawrence
From Xiamen to Quebec City, cargo moves out of Xiamen's Haicang and Songyu terminals on the Taiwan Strait, crosses a long voyage ending in the North Atlantic or the Gulf of St Lawrence, and is discharged at the port of Quebec City.
On the Canadian side the carrier's eManifest is due before loading and the road leg follows TDG conditions. This page sets out 5 points specific to this route, how Anxin handles each one and which documents to prepare.
What we need to start
Route profile
Fujian's battery gateway, handling more than 90% of the province's lithium battery exports, with 10-minute online packaging appraisal for compliant products and the Taiwan Strait's winter monsoon on the doorstep.
Canada checks the carrier's eManifest before loading, the importer's CARM security at release and, for consumer goods, bilingual labels.

Where this route gets difficult
They run from the Xiamen terminal through the voyage to Quebec City and the Canada import file.
Through the single window, Xiamen Customs now issues the lithium battery packaging use-appraisal certificate after automatic pre-review matching: roughly 10 minutes in a case reported in August 2026, compared with about half a day for the former on-site inspection. Only products that pass pre-review as compliant and valid get the fast path; mismatches return to inspection.
What Anxin does: We check the product data, UN38.3 summary and packaging codes against the application before it is submitted, so the certificate comes through pre-review rather than falling back to an on-site check.
Ships leaving Xiamen enter the Taiwan Strait straight away. A Chinese government weather account notes that the strait's funnel effect makes winds 1–2 Beaufort levels stronger than outside it, and that the winter and spring north-east monsoon brings force 7 or stronger winds on about two-thirds of days. Container ships are advised to secure lashing.
What Anxin does: From October to April we apply the CINS blocking and bracing checks strictly on stuffing photos before sealing.
The Atlantic hurricane season runs from 1 June to 30 November, peaking around 10 September, with most activity from mid-August to mid-October.
What Anxin does: For August–October arrivals we plan slack and pass the carrier's revised arrival to your consignee.
Canada accepts IMDG marking and documentation for the truck move out of Quebec City (TDG s. 9.3), provided the shipping document is legible in English or French, gives a 24-hour number and the container is placarded under TDG Part 4 or the IMDG Code.
What Anxin does: We check that the DG declaration is in English, carries a 24-hour number that the consignee has arranged and matches the container's placards before the documents go to the Canadian trucker.
Since 1 June 2025, Québec lets recognised non-French trademarks stay untranslated on products, but any generic or descriptive words in them must appear in French on the product or a permanently attached medium. Stock made before that date can be sold until 1 June 2027.
What Anxin does: We check product and packaging artwork for goods going to Quebec City for French versions of descriptive wording before the order is packed.

Documents & compliance
Test reports, safety data sheets and import certificates come from the shipper, factory and importer, not from Anxin; our part is to review them before booking.

We line up UN numbers, model names and package counts across the Xiamen filings, the booking with the carrier and the documents for Canada before the booking is confirmed, so that a mismatch is fixed at origin rather than discovered at Quebec City.
Carriers we book with
Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.
Risk & mitigation
| Risk | Where | Mitigation | Who acts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Application fails pre-review and falls back to on-site inspection | Xiamen Customs | Data checked against the application first | Anxin with the manufacturer |
| Cargo shift in winter monsoon seas | Taiwan Strait, Oct–Apr | CINS blocking and bracing checked on photos | Packing site, checked by Anxin |
Questions
Yes. TDG s. 9.3 allows IMDG documentation and marks for an international consignment going to or from a port, provided the document is legible in English or French and carries a 24-hour number.
Yes, but the Coast Guard's icebreaking season on the Gulf of St Lawrence and the river typically runs from December to May, and vessels must report their ice class to ECAREG CANADA. We confirm the vessel's ice capability when booking.
For products that pass automatic pre-review, Xiamen Customs issues it through the single window; the case reported in August 2026 took about 10 minutes, against about half a day for the old on-site inspection. Products that do not pass pre-review still need inspection.
