From Tianjin to Brunswick, cargo moves from North China through Tianjin Xingang, crosses the Pacific, the Panama Canal and the Caribbean, and is discharged at the port of Brunswick.

Brunswick means US customs filings that are due while the container is still in Tianjin, and a supply chain CBP may ask to see. This page sets out 6 points specific to this route, how Anxin handles each one and which documents to prepare.

Route profile

How Tianjin → Brunswick differs from other lanes

Origin port

Tianjin (Xingang)

North China's main container gateway, where Tianjin Customs lets DG containers be inspected at the factory and loaded on arrival within a booked port slot, and where the Bohai Bay freezes at its edges in mid-winter.

Sea corridor

Asia – Americas via the Panama Canal

A Pacific crossing, a Panama Canal transit that depends on lake levels, and a Caribbean passage in hurricane season.

Where this route gets difficult

6 pain points from Tianjin to Brunswick

In the order the cargo meets them: at the loading port, at sea, at Brunswick and at customs in United States.

  1. Origin port

Document review time at Tianjin and the cut-off

In July 2026 Tianjin MSA acknowledged that long document reviews under its traditional model often caused firms to miss the vessel's document cut-off, leaving cargo in port for another ship. The new appointment-based green channel, more than 50% faster with a fixed document list, is for new-energy-vehicle cargo; battery shipments should not count on it.

What Anxin does: We submit the cargo report with the full document set (safe-carriage declaration, SDS, packing certificate, packaging certificate) days before the cut-off rather than on the day, and treat any MSA query as same-day work.

  2. Origin port

Tianjin's supervised factory loading and port slots

Under Tianjin Customs' 'supervised factory loading, direct loading on port arrival' model, officers supervise stuffing at the factory, the declaration is lodged early through the single window, and the box enters the port in a slot booked on the customs–port platform before going straight to the ship; inspections take place in closed yards at the Beijiang and Dongjiang terminals. The gain holds only if stuffing date, slot and declared data agree.

What Anxin does: We fix the stuffing date against the vessel's DG cut-off first, then book the entry slot, and check that the declaration, the packing certificate and the container number agree before the truck leaves, so the box is not diverted to an inspection yard for a data mismatch.

  3. Sea corridor

North Pacific winter storms before the canal

NOAA's Ocean Prediction Center has recorded hurricane-force North Pacific storms in every month from October to April, most often in December. The Pacific leg to Panama crosses that ocean.

What Anxin does: For October–April sailings we check blocking and bracing on stuffing photos before sealing.

  4. Import country

The carrier's AMS manifest is due 24 hours before loading

Besides the importer's ISF, CBP must receive the carrier's electronic cargo declaration through AMS 24 hours before the container is laden in Tianjin (19 CFR 4.7). CBP does not issue the permit to unlade at Brunswick until it has that declaration, and late, incomplete or inaccurate cargo data can delay or deny it.

What Anxin does: We give the carrier or NVOCC the final cargo description, HS code, UN number and package count before the documentation cut-off in Tianjin, so the AMS filing and the DG manifest say the same thing.

  5. Import country

Georgia Ports: no terminal storage for UN3536 battery systems

Georgia Ports Authority rules effective 1 October 2025 treat battery energy storage systems (UN3536) like explosives: at least 96 hours' written notice, no storage on any Authority facility, no receipt by rail, and at Garden City discharge or loading directly shipside. Packed cells and modules under UN3480 are not caught, so the UN number decides how the container is handled at Brunswick.

What Anxin does: We confirm the UN number with the shipper before booking. For a containerised energy storage system, we make sure the carrier gives the 96-hour notice and the consignee has trucks ready at the ship.

  6. Import country

CPSC certificate data now filed at entry

Since 8 July 2026, importers of consumer products that are subject to a CPSC certification requirement must electronically file the certificate data at entry; goods entered from a Foreign Trade Zone follow on 8 January 2027. Whether a battery-powered product is caught depends on the rules that apply to that product, not on the battery alone.

What Anxin does: We ask whether the goods are consumer products that need a CPSC certificate and, if so, who files it, so that the question is settled before the goods arrive.

Documents & compliance

What to have ready: Tianjin to Brunswick

Anxin reviews documents supplied by the shipper, manufacturer and importer; it does not issue test reports, safety data sheets or import certificates.

At the Tianjin end

  • Stuffing date, port-entry slot and DG cut-off at Tianjin agreed in that order
  • Transport-condition classification report where applicable
  • Load plan showing even weight distribution (no more than 60% of the cargo weight in either half of the container length)
  • 'Made in China' marking on articles or containers checked on photos
  • Safety data sheet and dangerous goods safe-carriage declaration for the MSA cargo report

For the shipping line

  • Canal routing and any canal-related surcharge confirmed for the booked vessel
  • Condition statement: new, used, damaged/defective (SP376) or for recycling (SP377)
  • SP188 cartons: US 'forbidden aboard passenger aircraft' marking or CAO label

At the United States end

  • CPSC certificate data and eFiling arrangement, if the product is subject to certification
  • Importer of record and the licensed customs broker who will file the entry
  • ISF filer named; stuffing location and consolidator sent right after packing

Send the file once, complete

Most delays on this route start with a document that exists but does not match: a UN number, a model name or a package count that differs between the Tianjin filings, the carrier booking and the United States import file. We check the three against each other before the booking is confirmed.

Carriers we book with

Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.

Questions

Tianjin → Brunswick: questions we are asked

No. The carrier must also send its cargo declaration through AMS 24 hours before loading, and CBP will not issue the permit to unlade without it.

It can. In September 2026 the Panama Canal Authority postponed a planned draft cut in the Neopanamax locks because of Gatun Lake levels (advisory A-33-2026). We check the advisory in force when quoting.

The green channel Tianjin MSA announced in July 2026 is for new-energy-vehicle cargo. For battery containers we plan on the normal review and file early, because Tianjin MSA has said long reviews under the traditional model often cost firms their vessel cut-off.
