This route runs from North China through Tianjin Xingang, then follows a lane whose routing, Suez or Cape of Good Hope, is decided service by service; at the far end is the port of Kristiansund.

On the Norwegian side, Digitoll, SafeSeaNet reporting and national battery marking all apply. This page sets out 5 points specific to this route, how Anxin handles each one and which documents to prepare.

What we need to start

  • Tianjin Xingang export
  • Factory-supervised loading
  • Norwegian-language safety information
  • Digitoll house consignment
  • SafeSeaNet Norway hazardous cargo report

Route profile

How Tianjin → Kristiansund differs from other lanes

Origin port

Tianjin (Xingang)

North China's main container gateway, where Tianjin Customs lets DG containers be inspected at the factory and loaded on arrival within a booked port slot, and where the Bohai Bay freezes at its edges in mid-winter.

Sea corridor

Asia – North & Atlantic Europe

The map shows the Suez corridor, but in September 2026 most Asia–North Europe capacity still sails round the Cape of Good Hope.

Where this route gets difficult

Where Tianjin → Kristiansund shipments get held up: 5 points

In the order the cargo meets them: at the loading port, at sea, at Kristiansund and at customs in Norway.

  1. Origin port

Packaging appraisal comes first, even with Tianjin's quicker release

China requires use appraisal of export dangerous-goods packaging before the goods may be exported. Tianjin port's 2025 facilitation measures shortened packaging appraisal time for lithium battery exports through quick release, and Tianjin Port Group provides port services for lithium DG containers, but the appraisal certificate is still a precondition for the rest of the filing.

What Anxin does: We check at quotation that the packaging maker has its performance appraisal and apply for the use appraisal as soon as the packing is fixed, so the certificate is in hand before the MSA filing.

  2. Origin port

Winter ice at the Haihe mouth

Sea ice forms every winter in the Bohai Sea, and the Haihe estuary at Tianjin is among the severe areas. In winter 2021/22 China's national marine forecast centre expected the peak ice period from mid-January to mid-February, with floating ice reaching about 5 nautical miles out in Bohai Bay. Ice and cold spells slow port operations around the Chinese New Year shipping peak.

What Anxin does: For January and February sailings from Tianjin we add slack between stuffing and the DG cut-off and confirm the vessel's berthing window with the carrier the week before loading.

  3. Sea corridor

Suez on the map, the Cape on most sailings

The corridor on this page is drawn through Bab-el-Mandeb and the Suez Canal. In practice, Sea-Intelligence data for September 2026 put Red Sea routing on the Asia–Europe head-haul at 13–25%: 27% for services to North Europe and 57% for Mediterranean services. Which service calls at Kristiansund decides whether the box goes through Suez or round the Cape of Good Hope, and the two routings differ in length, in the waters crossed and in the ports where a box might be transhipped.

What Anxin does: We ask the carrier to state the routing and any transhipment port on the booking confirmation, and we quote the two routings separately when both are on offer rather than mixing them.

  4. Import country

Norway is still on its own battery rules

The EU Battery Regulation has not yet been taken into the EEA Agreement, so it does not apply in Norway yet. Existing Norwegian rules and the approved producer responsibility companies, such as RENAS, stay in place, and Miljødirektoratet consulted in April 2026 on the transition. Importers need to follow the Norwegian rules today and watch the new regulation.

What Anxin does: We ask the Norwegian importer which return company it belongs to, and do not assume EU-only paperwork covers the Norwegian market.

  5. Import country

    Norwegian road transport follows ADR

Under Norway's regulation on land transport of dangerous goods, ADR applies as Norwegian law on the road, including domestic journeys. A UN 3480 load leaving Kristiansund therefore moves as class 9, transport category 2, with tunnel restriction code (E), which the haulier has to reflect in route planning.

What Anxin does: We give the Norwegian haulier the UN number, class and package details from the sea dangerous goods declaration so the road paperwork from Kristiansund matches the container file.

Most delays on this route start with a document that exists but does not match: a UN number, a model name or a package count that differs between the Tianjin filings, the carrier booking and the Norway import file. We check the three against each other before the booking is confirmed.

Carriers we book with

Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.

Questions

Questions about shipping from Tianjin to Kristiansund

Yes. Norway is part of the EU customs security area, so shipments from China are pre-notified in ICS2 and the filer needs an EORI number.

It depends on the service. In September 2026 most Asia–North Europe capacity still sailed round the Cape of Good Hope; Sea-Intelligence put the Red Sea share for North Europe vessels at 27%. We ask the carrier to confirm the routing on the booking and quote each routing separately.

Tianjin Customs offers a 'supervised factory loading, direct loading on port arrival' model: stuffing is supervised at the factory, the box enters the port in a booked slot and is loaded directly. Whether a given shipment can use it depends on the customs arrangement for the exporter and the port slot; we check both when you book.
