From Tianjin to Aqaba, cargo moves from North China through Tianjin Xingang, crosses a corridor drawn through Bab-el-Mandeb and up the Red Sea, and is discharged at a terminal that decides, box by box, whether dangerous goods go to the yard or straight onto trucks.

Jordan lets only an authorised forwarding agent file the electronic customs declaration. Below are 5 route-specific points to plan for, what we do about each, and the documents to have ready before booking.

What we need to start

  • Bohai Bay winter ice
  • Tianjin Xingang export
  • Trucks ready for direct delivery
  • Importer's card (Jordan)
  • Arabic translation of the invoice

Route profile

How Tianjin → Aqaba differs from other lanes

Sea corridor

Asia – Red Sea & Gulf of Aden

The drawn corridor enters the Red Sea through Bab-el-Mandeb, where Saudi-linked shipping was being threatened in September 2026, and ends in one of the warmest seas in the world.

Destination port

Aqaba

A DG arrival declaration and MSDS to the terminal 24 hours before the ship, a terminal decision on yard storage or direct delivery, and fines for misdeclaration.

Where this route gets difficult

5 points to plan for on the Tianjin → Aqaba route

Listed from loading in Tianjin to import into Jordan, each with what we do about it.

  1. Origin port

Packaging appraisal is still the first step at Tianjin

Export dangerous-goods packaging must pass use appraisal in China before the goods can leave. Tianjin port's 2025 measures shortened appraisal time for lithium battery exports through quick release, and Tianjin Port Group handles lithium DG containers, but without the appraisal certificate the rest of the filing cannot proceed.

What Anxin does: We check at quotation that the packaging maker has its performance appraisal and apply for the use appraisal as soon as the packing is fixed, so the certificate is in hand before the MSA filing.

  2. Origin port

At Tianjin the port slot is booked before the truck leaves the factory

Tianjin Customs runs a 'supervised factory loading, direct loading on port arrival' model for dangerous goods: officers oversee stuffing at the factory, the declaration goes in early through the single window, and the container enters the port in a slot booked on the customs–port platform and goes straight to the ship. Any inspection happens in closed yards inside the Beijiang and Dongjiang terminals. The time saved depends on the stuffing date, the slot and the declared data all matching.

What Anxin does: We fix the stuffing date against the vessel's DG cut-off first, then book the entry slot, and check that the declaration, the packing certificate and the container number agree before the truck leaves, so the box is not diverted to an inspection yard for a data mismatch.

  3. Sea corridor

No way to reach Aqaba without the Red Sea

Unlike cargo for Europe, a container for Aqaba cannot avoid the Red Sea. The drawn corridor enters through Bab-el-Mandeb; the only alternative is the long way round Africa and back south through the Suez Canal. In September 2026 the Houthis attacked targets in southern Saudi Arabia, including Aramco facilities at the Red Sea port of Jazan, and described a 'maritime embargo' on Saudi Arabia. Ships still transit Bab-el-Mandeb when contracts justify it, but container lines are selective.

What Anxin does: We ask each carrier how it currently reaches Aqaba (through Bab-el-Mandeb on the same vessel, via a transhipment hub, or from the north via Suez) and name that routing, and any war-risk or emergency surcharge the carrier applies, in the written quote.

  4. Destination port

Yard, direct delivery or security committee: the terminal decides

At Aqaba Container Terminal the agent emails the DG arrival declaration and MSDS to the terminal at least 24 hours before the ship arrives, and the terminal confirms how each container will be handled: yard storage, direct delivery or a security committee procedure. For the last two, the consignee's trucks must be waiting at least 2 hours before the crane starts on that bay.

What Anxin does: We send the SDS with the DG declaration at booking and tell the importer to have trucks and its clearance agent ready in case Aqaba assigns direct delivery.

  5. Import country

Importer's card or a customs bond

Jordan requires importers of commercial goods to be registered traders, and trading companies must hold an importer's card from the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply or pay a customs bond linked to the value of the goods. A buyer without the card turns the clearance of a battery container into a bonding exercise.

What Anxin does: At booking we ask the Jordanian buyer whether it holds an importer's card and which authorised forwarding agent will clear the container at Aqaba.

Documents & compliance

What to have ready: Tianjin to Aqaba

These documents come from the shipper, the manufacturer and the importer. Anxin checks them against each other; it does not issue test reports, safety data sheets or import certificates.

At the Tianjin end

  • Stuffing date, port-entry slot and DG cut-off at Tianjin agreed in that order
  • Packaging use-appraisal certificate issued before the MSA cargo report is filed
  • Safety data sheet and dangerous goods safe-carriage declaration for the MSA cargo report
  • Customs packaging use-appraisal result for the dangerous goods packaging (with the maker's performance appraisal)
  • Container packing certificate signed by a certified packing inspector after supervised stuffing

For the shipping line

  • Carrier's current routing into the Red Sea and any transhipment port, stated on the booking
  • Dangerous goods declaration with UN number (3480 / 3481 / 3090 / 3091), proper shipping name and packing instruction (P903, or P908/P911 for damaged)
  • Lithium battery mark (SP188 cargo) or class 9 labels and placards

At the Jordan end

  • Trucks and agent ready if direct delivery is assigned
  • Arabic translation of the commercial invoice

Before you book

One consistent file

A document that is present but inconsistent holds a booking as surely as a missing one: the UN number, model name or carton count reads differently in the Tianjin export filings, the carrier booking and the Jordan import papers. We compare all three before confirming space.

Carriers we book with

Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.

Questions

Tianjin → Aqaba: questions we are asked

No, but the importer must provide an Arabic translation, and only an authorised forwarding agent can file the electronic customs declaration.

Either through Bab-el-Mandeb, on the same vessel or after transhipment, or the long way round Africa and south through the Suez Canal. Container lines were being selective in September 2026, so we ask each carrier for its current routing and name it, with any risk surcharge, in the quote.

Tianjin Customs offers a 'supervised factory loading, direct loading on port arrival' model: stuffing is supervised at the factory, the box enters the port in a booked slot and is loaded directly. Whether a given shipment can use it depends on the customs arrangement for the exporter and the port slot; we check both when you book.
