From Tianjin to Sydney (Nova Scotia), cargo moves from North China through Tianjin Xingang, crosses a corridor through the Panama Canal, and is discharged at the port of Sydney (Nova Scotia).
Canada adds an eManifest that closes 24 hours before loading and a CARM account that decides whether goods are released before duty is paid. This page sets out 5 points specific to this route, how Anxin handles each one and which documents to prepare.
What we need to start
Route profile
North China's main container gateway, where Tianjin Customs lets DG containers be inspected at the factory and loaded on arrival within a booked port slot, and where the Bohai Bay freezes at its edges in mid-winter.
Container data due 24 hours before loading, CARM security for release before payment, and a road leg that accepts IMDG papers under Canadian conditions.

Where this route gets difficult
They run from the Tianjin terminal through the voyage to Sydney (Nova Scotia) and the Canada import file.
In July 2026 Tianjin MSA acknowledged that long document reviews under its traditional model often caused firms to miss the vessel's document cut-off, leaving cargo in port for another ship. The new appointment-based green channel, more than 50% faster with a fixed document list, is for new-energy-vehicle cargo; battery shipments should not count on it.
What Anxin does: We submit the cargo report with the full document set (safe-carriage declaration, SDS, packing certificate, packaging certificate) days before the cut-off rather than on the day, and treat any MSA query as same-day work.
Export dangerous-goods packaging must pass use appraisal in China before the goods can leave. Tianjin port's 2025 measures shortened appraisal time for lithium battery exports through quick release, and Tianjin Port Group handles lithium DG containers, but without the appraisal certificate the rest of the filing cannot proceed.
What Anxin does: We check at quotation that the packaging maker has its performance appraisal and apply for the use appraisal as soon as the packing is fixed, so the certificate is in hand before the MSA filing.
After the canal, ships to Sydney (Nova Scotia) cross the Caribbean, where the Atlantic hurricane season lasts from 1 June to 30 November and peaks around 10 September; an average year brings 14 named storms and 7 hurricanes. Ports close ahead of a storm and vessels wait or divert.
What Anxin does: For August–October arrivals we build slack into delivery plans and pass the carrier's revised arrival straight to your consignee.
Canada accepts IMDG marking and documentation for the truck move out of Sydney (Nova Scotia) (TDG s. 9.3), provided the shipping document is legible in English or French, gives a 24-hour number and the container is placarded under TDG Part 4 or the IMDG Code.
What Anxin does: We check that the DG declaration is in English, carries a 24-hour number that the consignee has arranged and matches the container's placards before the documents go to the Canadian trucker.
Under s. 14 of the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act, an importer that learns of a health or safety incident involving a consumer product must tell Health Canada and its supplier within two days, and file a written report within ten. For battery products sold in Canada, the Chinese supplier's test and batch data are needed quickly.
What Anxin does: We make sure the importer has the manufacturer's contact, batch identifiers and test reports on file with each shipment, so an incident report can be made on time.

Documents & compliance
Anxin reviews documents supplied by the shipper, manufacturer and importer; it does not issue test reports, safety data sheets or import certificates.

Most delays on this route start with a document that exists but does not match: a UN number, a model name or a package count that differs between the Tianjin filings, the carrier booking and the Canada import file. We check the three against each other before the booking is confirmed.
Carriers we book with
Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.
Risk & mitigation
| Risk | Where | Mitigation | Who acts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Document review runs past the vessel cut-off; cargo re-allocated to a later ship | Tianjin MSA review | Complete document set filed days before cut-off | Anxin with the declarant |
| Hurricane closes ports or diverts the vessel | Caribbean / Gulf, Jun–Nov | Slack in delivery plan | Carrier / consignee |
Questions
At least 24 hours before loading in China. If the data are amended electronically before the ship sails, the 24 hours restart from the CBSA's acknowledgement.
It can. In September 2026 the Panama Canal Authority postponed a planned draft cut in the Neopanamax locks because of Gatun Lake levels (advisory A-33-2026). We check the advisory in force when quoting.
The green channel Tianjin MSA announced in July 2026 is for new-energy-vehicle cargo. For battery containers we plan on the normal review and file early, because Tianjin MSA has said long reviews under the traditional model often cost firms their vessel cut-off.
