From Tianjin to Botwood, cargo moves from North China through Tianjin Xingang, crosses a long voyage ending in the North Atlantic or the Gulf of St Lawrence, and is discharged at the port of Botwood.
Canadian clearance depends on eManifest data filed before loading and on the importer's CARM set-up. This page sets out 5 points specific to this route, how Anxin handles each one and which documents to prepare.
What we need to start
Route profile
North China's main container gateway, where Tianjin Customs lets DG containers be inspected at the factory and loaded on arrival within a booked port slot, and where the Bohai Bay freezes at its edges in mid-winter.
Atlantic Canada and St Lawrence waters: icebreaking in winter, hurricane-force storms from October to April.

Where this route gets difficult
Loading port first, then the sea leg, then Botwood and the Canada market.
Under Tianjin Customs' 'supervised factory loading, direct loading on port arrival' model, officers supervise stuffing at the factory, the declaration is lodged early through the single window, and the box enters the port in a slot booked on the customs–port platform before going straight to the ship; inspections take place in closed yards at the Beijiang and Dongjiang terminals. The gain holds only if stuffing date, slot and declared data agree.
What Anxin does: We fix the stuffing date against the vessel's DG cut-off first, then book the entry slot, and check that the declaration, the packing certificate and the container number agree before the truck leaves, so the box is not diverted to an inspection yard for a data mismatch.
China requires use appraisal of export dangerous-goods packaging before the goods may be exported. Tianjin port's 2025 facilitation measures shortened packaging appraisal time for lithium battery exports through quick release, and Tianjin Port Group provides port services for lithium DG containers, but the appraisal certificate is still a precondition for the rest of the filing.
What Anxin does: We check at quotation that the packaging maker has its performance appraisal and apply for the use appraisal as soon as the packing is fixed, so the certificate is in hand before the MSA filing.
The first half of a voyage to Botwood goes either through Panama, where Gatun Lake sets the Neopanamax draft (a planned cut was postponed in September 2026), or through Suez and the Mediterranean, where Mediterranean services used the Red Sea 57% of the time in September 2026.
What Anxin does: We ask the carrier which routing the service uses and quote the options separately.
Canada's advance commercial information rules want container data from the carrier 24 hours before loading abroad. Change the data electronically before the ship sails and the 24 hours run again from the CBSA's acknowledgement, which is how a correction made in Tianjin can cost a container its sailing.
What Anxin does: We send the carrier the final cargo description, UN number, weights and consignee details before the cut-off in Tianjin and avoid amendments after the filing.
Canada accepts IMDG marking and documentation for the truck move out of Botwood (TDG s. 9.3), provided the shipping document is legible in English or French, gives a 24-hour number and the container is placarded under TDG Part 4 or the IMDG Code.
What Anxin does: We check that the DG declaration is in English, carries a 24-hour number that the consignee has arranged and matches the container's placards before the documents go to the Canadian trucker.

Documents & compliance
These documents come from the shipper, the manufacturer and the importer. Anxin checks them against each other; it does not issue test reports, safety data sheets or import certificates.

A document that is present but inconsistent holds a booking as surely as a missing one: the UN number, model name or carton count reads differently in the Tianjin export filings, the carrier booking and the Canada import papers. We compare all three before confirming space.
Carriers we book with
Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.
Risk & mitigation
| Risk | Where | Mitigation | Who acts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Box sent to the terminal inspection yard because declared data do not match | Beijiang / Dongjiang terminals | Declaration, packing certificate and container number cross-checked before trucking | Anxin |
| Container rolled after a late eManifest amendment | Loading port | Data final before filing | Carrier, with data from Anxin |
Questions
Yes. TDG s. 9.3 allows IMDG documentation and marks for an international consignment going to or from a port, provided the document is legible in English or French and carries a 24-hour number.
NOAA's storm study found hurricane-force winter storms from October to April, most often in January.
Tianjin Customs offers a 'supervised factory loading, direct loading on port arrival' model: stuffing is supervised at the factory, the box enters the port in a booked slot and is loaded directly. Whether a given shipment can use it depends on the customs arrangement for the exporter and the port slot; we check both when you book.
