From Shenzhen to Koper, cargo moves out of Shenzhen's Yantian and Shekou terminals, crosses a Suez corridor that Mediterranean services are using again more than any other Asia–Europe lane, and is discharged at the port of Koper.

Slovenia applies the EU Battery Regulation, starting with registration in its own national producer register. This page sets out 6 points specific to this route, how Anxin handles each one and which documents to prepare.

What we need to start

  • Typhoon season Jun–Oct
  • Yantian / Shekou export
  • Consignee EORI
  • National producer registration
  • EU declaration of conformity

Route profile

What sets Shenzhen → Koper apart

Origin port

Shenzhen (Yantian / Shekou)

Pearl River Delta battery cargo, often stuffed at factories in Dongguan or Huizhou, exported through Yantian or Shekou, with a typhoon season from June to October.

Sea corridor

Asia – Mediterranean via Suez

Mediterranean services are the ones most likely to use Suez again (57% in September 2026), which puts the cargo back through Bab el-Mandeb, rated a SUBSTANTIAL threat.

Where this route gets difficult

What to watch between Shenzhen and Koper: 6 points

In the order the cargo meets them: at the loading port, at sea, at Koper and at customs in Slovenia.

  1. Origin port

    Typhoon season squeezes Shenzhen cut-offs

The Hong Kong Observatory puts the regional tropical cyclone season from June to October, busiest July to September. DG containers need their MSA filings approved and a signed packing certificate before loading, so a closed gate or a rolled vessel in typhoon weeks can push the whole document chain to a new sailing.

What Anxin does: From June to October we build slack into the stuffing date, confirm the DG cut-off with the carrier the week before loading, and resubmit filings promptly if the vessel changes.

  2. Origin port

Factory stuffing in Dongguan, loading at Yantian: avoid a second opening

Much Shenzhen battery export is stuffed inland and trucked to the terminal. In May 2026 Yantian MSA and Dongguan MSA ran a cross-regional 'one-box' pilot: four battery containers were inspected jointly at the Dongguan factory and loaded at Yantian without being opened again. It shows that the inspection record made at the factory is what matters at the terminal.

What Anxin does: We ask at booking whether your factory and the terminal's MSA office can use the one-box arrangement, and we have stuffing photos, the packing certificate and the DG declaration match exactly, so the container is not held for re-inspection.

  3. Sea corridor

Suez is the likelier routing for Koper

Asia–Mediterranean services used the Red Sea 57% of the time in September 2026 according to Sea-Intelligence, compared with 27% for North Europe, so a box for Koper most probably goes via Suez and through Bab el-Mandeb. The JMIC rated that strait SUBSTANTIAL on 24 September 2026; the Houthis call their blockade selective and now hold Perim Island in the channel.

What Anxin does: We ask the carrier which routing its service to Koper uses and name it on the quote, together with any war-risk or emergency surcharge.

  4. Import country

    Substance limits for portable batteries

For portable batteries, Annex I sets maximum levels of 0.0005 % mercury, 0.002 % cadmium and 0.01 % lead by weight, the lead limit applying since 18 August 2024. The importer in Slovenia may be asked by market surveillance to demonstrate compliance.

What Anxin does: We ask the manufacturer for its substance declaration or test report reference and file it with the shipping documents for the Slovenia importer; we do not test batteries.

  5. Import country

CE marking and a declaration of conformity in the right language

Since 18 August 2024 a battery sold in the EU needs the CE marking and an EU declaration of conformity from its manufacturer. The declaration has to be available in the language Slovenia requires, and the importer is the one who must check both before the goods are released for sale.

What Anxin does: We ask the manufacturer in China for the declaration of conformity and a photo of the CE marking on the battery or its packaging before loading, and pass them to the Slovenia importer. We check that the documents exist and match the goods; we do not assess conformity.

  6. Import country

Battery label from August 2026, QR code from February 2027

Two marking dates fall into current shipping plans for Slovenia: the general label from 18 August 2026 and the QR code from 18 February 2027, which for EV, LMT and larger industrial batteries has to open the battery passport.

What Anxin does: Before booking we ask the Slovenia importer to confirm the battery category and whether the label and QR-code elements are already on the goods, and compare carton photos with that answer.

Documents & compliance

Documents to line up for Shenzhen → Koper

Anxin reviews documents supplied by the shipper, manufacturer and importer; it does not issue test reports, safety data sheets or import certificates.

Before loading in Shenzhen

  • Confirmation from the carrier of the DG cut-off at Yantian or Shekou, rechecked in typhoon weeks
  • Transport-condition classification report where applicable
  • Load plan showing even weight distribution (no more than 60% of the cargo weight in either half of the container length)
  • EU declaration of conformity and CE marking photo from the manufacturer
  • Importer name, trade name and postal address printed on battery or packaging

For the shipping line

  • Routing (Red Sea or Cape) and any war-risk surcharge stated on the booking
  • Dangerous goods declaration with UN number (3480 / 3481 / 3090 / 3091), proper shipping name and packing instruction (P903, or P908/P911 for damaged)
  • Lithium battery mark (SP188 cargo) or class 9 labels and placards

For the importer in Slovenia

  • Label and QR-code status against the August 2026 and February 2027 dates
  • Producer of record in Slovenia and its national registration number
  • Instructions and safety information in the language Slovenia requires

Before you book

Match the details first

We line up UN numbers, model names and package counts across the Shenzhen filings, the booking with the carrier and the documents for Slovenia before the booking is confirmed, so that a mismatch is fixed at origin rather than discovered at Koper.

Carriers we book with

Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.

Questions

Common questions on the Shenzhen → Koper route

24 hours before the container is loaded in China, not before it reaches Koper. Without it carriers do not load the box, and a filing without an EORI number is rejected.

Often: in September 2026, 57% of Asia–Mediterranean services used the Red Sea routing. Bab el-Mandeb was rated a SUBSTANTIAL threat by the JMIC on 24 September 2026, so we confirm each service's routing before booking.

Yes, provided a certified packing inspector supervises the stuffing and signs the container packing certificate. Since May 2026 Yantian and Dongguan MSA have also piloted joint factory inspection so the container can be loaded at Yantian without reopening; we check whether your shipment can use it.
