From Shenzhen to Kristiansund, cargo moves from Dongguan and Shenzhen factories via Yantian, crosses a voyage that may run through Suez as drawn or round the Cape, depending on the service, and is discharged at the port of Kristiansund.

The Norwegian side runs producer responsibility through approved return companies. This page sets out 6 points specific to this route, how Anxin handles each one and which documents to prepare.

What we need to start

  • Yantian / Shekou export
  • Typhoon season Jun–Oct
  • Return company membership
  • Norwegian-language safety information
  • Digitoll house consignment

Route profile

The Shenzhen → Kristiansund route in brief

Origin port

Shenzhen (Yantian / Shekou)

Pearl River Delta battery cargo, often stuffed at factories in Dongguan or Huizhou, exported through Yantian or Shekou, with a typhoon season from June to October.

Sea corridor

Asia – North & Atlantic Europe

The map shows the Suez corridor, but in September 2026 most Asia–North Europe capacity still sails round the Cape of Good Hope.

Where this route gets difficult

6 points to plan for on the Shenzhen → Kristiansund route

Listed from loading in Shenzhen to import into Norway, each with what we do about it.

  1. Origin port

Factory stuffing in Dongguan, loading at Yantian: avoid a second opening

Much Shenzhen battery export is stuffed inland and trucked to the terminal. In May 2026 Yantian MSA and Dongguan MSA ran a cross-regional 'one-box' pilot: four battery containers were inspected jointly at the Dongguan factory and loaded at Yantian without being opened again. It shows that the inspection record made at the factory is what matters at the terminal.

What Anxin does: We ask at booking whether your factory and the terminal's MSA office can use the one-box arrangement, and we have stuffing photos, the packing certificate and the DG declaration match exactly, so the container is not held for re-inspection.

  2. Origin port

    Typhoon season squeezes Shenzhen cut-offs

The Hong Kong Observatory puts the regional tropical cyclone season from June to October, busiest July to September. DG containers need their MSA filings approved and a signed packing certificate before loading, so a closed gate or a rolled vessel in typhoon weeks can push the whole document chain to a new sailing.

What Anxin does: From June to October we build slack into the stuffing date, confirm the DG cut-off with the carrier the week before loading, and resubmit filings promptly if the vessel changes.

  3. Sea corridor

Drawn via Suez, sailed mostly via the Cape

The map on this page shows the corridor through Bab-el-Mandeb and Suez, but Sea-Intelligence figures for September 2026 put Red Sea routing on the Asia–Europe head-haul at 13–25%, with 27% for North Europe services and 57% for the Mediterranean. The service that calls at Kristiansund decides between Suez and the Cape of Good Hope, and with it the distance, the waters and the possible transhipment ports.

What Anxin does: We ask the carrier to state the routing and any transhipment port on the booking confirmation, and we quote the two routings separately when both are on offer rather than mixing them.

  4. Import country

ADR applies on Norwegian roads too

Norway's regulation on land transport of dangerous goods makes ADR Norwegian law for road journeys, domestic ones included. UN 3480 therefore travels from Kristiansund as class 9, transport category 2, with tunnel restriction code (E), so the haulier plans the route with category E tunnels in mind.

What Anxin does: We give the Norwegian haulier the UN number, class and package details from the sea dangerous goods declaration so the road paperwork from Kristiansund matches the container file.

  5. Import country

ICS2 applies to Norway as well

Norway belongs to the EU customs security area under an agreement in force since 1 July 2009, so containers for Kristiansund need the same ICS2 pre-notification as cargo for EU ports, and whoever files it needs an EORI number. Being outside the EU does not remove the pre-loading filing in Shenzhen.

What Anxin does: We collect the Norwegian consignee's details and an HS-level description at booking and make sure the ENS filer has them before the Shenzhen cut-off.

  6. Import country

Norwegian battery marking and return-company membership

Until the EU rules reach Norway, battery marking follows the Norwegian product regulation: the crossed-out waste container symbol, Hg, Cd or Pb symbols above set thresholds, and capacity marking for certain battery types. The importer also has to belong to an approved battery return company under the waste regulation.

What Anxin does: We compare carton and battery photos against the Norwegian marking list before loading and ask the importer to confirm its return company.

Documents & compliance

What to have ready: Shenzhen to Kristiansund

These documents come from the shipper, the manufacturer and the importer. Anxin checks them against each other; it does not issue test reports, safety data sheets or import certificates.

At the Shenzhen end

  • Confirmation from the carrier of the DG cut-off at Yantian or Shekou, rechecked in typhoon weeks
  • Safety data sheet and dangerous goods safe-carriage declaration for the MSA cargo report
  • Customs packaging use-appraisal result for the dangerous goods packaging (with the maker's performance appraisal)
  • Container packing certificate signed by a certified packing inspector after supervised stuffing
  • Transport-condition classification report where applicable

Carrier and voyage

  • Routing (Suez or Cape of Good Hope) and any transhipment port stated on the booking confirmation
  • Dangerous goods data consistent for the carrier's SafeSeaNet Norway report
  • UN 38.3 test summary for every cell and battery type

At the Norway end

  • Norwegian haulier briefed with UN 3480 class 9 and tunnel code (E)
  • Return company (producer responsibility) membership of the Norwegian importer
  • House consignment data for Digitoll and the TVINN declarant confirmed before arrival

Before you book

Match the details first

We line up UN numbers, model names and package counts across the Shenzhen filings, the booking with the carrier and the documents for Norway before the booking is confirmed, so that a mismatch is fixed at origin rather than discovered at Kristiansund.

Carriers we book with

Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.

Questions

Shenzhen → Kristiansund: questions we are asked

Not yet. It has not been incorporated into the EEA Agreement; existing Norwegian battery rules and approved producer responsibility companies continue until a new Norwegian regulation takes over.

It depends on the service. In September 2026 most Asia–North Europe capacity still sailed round the Cape of Good Hope; Sea-Intelligence put the Red Sea share for North Europe vessels at 27%. We ask the carrier to confirm the routing on the booking and quote each routing separately.

Yes, provided a certified packing inspector supervises the stuffing and signs the container packing certificate. Since May 2026 Yantian and Dongguan MSA have also piloted joint factory inspection so the container can be loaded at Yantian without reopening; we check whether your shipment can use it.
