Lithium batteries for Bodø go from Dongguan and Shenzhen factories via Yantian, where the one-box route had moved 409 battery containers by September 2026. On the way they face a voyage that may run through Suez as drawn or round the Cape, depending on the service, and they arrive at the port of Bodø.

Norway still applies its own battery regulation while the EU rules wait for EEA incorporation. Below are 5 route-specific points to plan for, what we do about each, and the documents to have ready before booking.

What we need to start

  • Yantian / Shekou export
  • Typhoon season Jun–Oct
  • Norwegian-language safety information
  • Digitoll house consignment
  • SafeSeaNet Norway hazardous cargo report

Route profile

How Shenzhen → Bodø differs from other lanes

Origin port

Shenzhen (Yantian / Shekou)

Pearl River Delta battery cargo, often stuffed at factories in Dongguan or Huizhou, exported through Yantian or Shekou, with a typhoon season from June to October.

Import country

Norway

ADR on Norwegian roads, Norwegian battery marking under the product regulation, and membership of an approved return company.

Where this route gets difficult

What to watch between Shenzhen and Bodø: 5 points

Listed from loading in Shenzhen to import into Norway, each with what we do about it.

  1. Origin port

    Cut-offs in Shenzhen's typhoon weeks

June to October is the regional tropical cyclone season according to the Hong Kong Observatory, peaking July to September. Because DG boxes need approved MSA filings and a signed packing certificate before loading, a gate closure or rolled vessel in those weeks can move the entire document chain to another sailing.

What Anxin does: From June to October we build slack into the stuffing date, confirm the DG cut-off with the carrier the week before loading, and resubmit filings promptly if the vessel changes.

  2. Sea corridor

Suez on the map, the Cape on most sailings

The corridor on this page is drawn through Bab-el-Mandeb and the Suez Canal. In practice, Sea-Intelligence data for September 2026 put Red Sea routing on the Asia–Europe head-haul at 13–25%: 27% for services to North Europe and 57% for Mediterranean services. Which service calls at Bodø decides whether the box goes through Suez or round the Cape of Good Hope, and the two routings differ in length, in the waters crossed and in the ports where a box might be transhipped.

What Anxin does: We ask the carrier to state the routing and any transhipment port on the booking confirmation, and we quote the two routings separately when both are on offer rather than mixing them.

  3. Import country

    Norwegian road transport follows ADR

Under Norway's regulation on land transport of dangerous goods, ADR applies as Norwegian law on the road, including domestic journeys. A UN 3480 load leaving Bodø therefore moves as class 9, transport category 2, with tunnel restriction code (E), which the haulier has to reflect in route planning.

What Anxin does: We give the Norwegian haulier the UN number, class and package details from the sea dangerous goods declaration so the road paperwork from Bodø matches the container file.

  4. Import country

Digitoll: cargo data 24 hours before the first Norwegian call

Norway's Digitoll for sea cargo became mandatory on 15 September 2026: the carrier or its representative sends transport, master and house consignment messages at least 24 hours before the first Norwegian call, and the importer declares in TVINN no later than arrival at Bodø. The old direct-transfer arrangement ends on 1 March 2027.

What Anxin does: We give the carrier and the Norwegian customs agent matching house-bill data, and ask the importer who files the TVINN declaration, so the house consignment for Bodø links to it before arrival.

  5. Import country

SafeSeaNet Norway needs the dangerous goods data

Ships with hazardous or noxious cargo report it in SafeSeaNet Norway no later than 24 hours before arrival at a Norwegian port, categorised correctly and backed by a manifest or cargo plan showing where the dangerous goods are stowed. That report draws on the shipper's declaration, so a mistake in Shenzhen reaches Bodø intact.

What Anxin does: We check that the UN number, class and package count on our dangerous goods declaration match the booking, so the carrier's SafeSeaNet report for Bodø is built on consistent data.

Documents & compliance

What to have ready: Shenzhen to Bodø

These documents come from the shipper, the manufacturer and the importer. Anxin checks them against each other; it does not issue test reports, safety data sheets or import certificates.

In Shenzhen, before the box is loaded

  • Confirmation from the carrier of the DG cut-off at Yantian or Shekou, rechecked in typhoon weeks
  • Safety data sheet and dangerous goods safe-carriage declaration for the MSA cargo report
  • Customs packaging use-appraisal result for the dangerous goods packaging (with the maker's performance appraisal)
  • Container packing certificate signed by a certified packing inspector after supervised stuffing
  • Transport-condition classification report where applicable

For the shipping line

  • Routing (Suez or Cape of Good Hope) and any transhipment port stated on the booking confirmation
  • Dangerous goods declaration with UN number (3480 / 3481 / 3090 / 3091), proper shipping name and packing instruction (P903, or P908/P911 for damaged)
  • Lithium battery mark (SP188 cargo) or class 9 labels and placards

For import into Norway

  • Norwegian haulier briefed with UN 3480 class 9 and tunnel code (E)
  • Return company (producer responsibility) membership of the Norwegian importer

Before you book

Send the file once, complete

Most delays on this route start with a document that exists but does not match: a UN number, a model name or a package count that differs between the Shenzhen filings, the carrier booking and the Norway import file. We check the three against each other before the booking is confirmed.

Carriers we book with

Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.

Questions

Common questions on the Shenzhen → Bodø route

Since 15 September 2026 vessel and cargo information must be filed digitally at least 24 hours before the first Norwegian call, and the importer's TVINN declaration is due by arrival at the discharge port.

It depends on the service. In September 2026 most Asia–North Europe capacity still sailed round the Cape of Good Hope; Sea-Intelligence put the Red Sea share for North Europe vessels at 27%. We ask the carrier to confirm the routing on the booking and quote each routing separately.

Yes, provided a certified packing inspector supervises the stuffing and signs the container packing certificate. Since May 2026 Yantian and Dongguan MSA have also piloted joint factory inspection so the container can be loaded at Yantian without reopening; we check whether your shipment can use it.
