Lithium batteries for Aqaba go from factories around the Pearl River Delta through Yantian or Shekou. On the way they face a corridor drawn through Bab-el-Mandeb and up the Red Sea, and they arrive at a terminal that decides, box by box, whether dangerous goods go to the yard or straight onto trucks.

Jordan lets only an authorised forwarding agent file the electronic customs declaration. The 5 points below are particular to this lane; each comes with what we do and the paperwork it touches.

What we need to start

  • Typhoon season Jun–Oct
  • Yantian / Shekou export
  • DG arrival declaration + MSDS 24 h before arrival
  • Trucks ready for direct delivery
  • Importer's card (Jordan)

Route profile

How Shenzhen → Aqaba differs from other lanes

Origin port

Shenzhen (Yantian / Shekou)

Pearl River Delta battery cargo, often stuffed at factories in Dongguan or Huizhou, exported through Yantian or Shekou, with a typhoon season from June to October.

Sea corridor

Asia – Red Sea & Gulf of Aden

Bab-el-Mandeb rated SUBSTANTIAL, piracy back in the Gulf of Aden, and a final leg through one of the warmest seas in the world.

Where this route gets difficult

5 pain points from Shenzhen to Aqaba

Listed from loading in Shenzhen to import into Jordan, each with what we do about it.

  1. Origin port

Packaging certificates are now visible to both customs and MSA

Much of Shenzhen's battery cargo is made in Dongguan, home to more than 500 battery firms. In September 2026 Dongguan Customs and Dongguan MSA began sharing dangerous-goods packaging certificate data, described as a first in China, and committed to joint action against concealed and false declarations. The one-box route to Yantian, which had moved 409 containers by then, rests on that same record.

What Anxin does: We compare the packaging certificate with the MSA cargo report (UN number, packaging code, number of packages) before either goes in, so the shared data shows no gap.

  2. Origin port

Factory stuffing in Dongguan, loading at Yantian: avoid a second opening

Much Shenzhen battery export is stuffed inland and trucked to the terminal. In May 2026 Yantian MSA and Dongguan MSA ran a cross-regional 'one-box' pilot: four battery containers were inspected jointly at the Dongguan factory and loaded at Yantian without being opened again. It shows that the inspection record made at the factory is what matters at the terminal.

What Anxin does: We ask at booking whether your factory and the terminal's MSA office can use the one-box arrangement, and we have stuffing photos, the packing certificate and the DG declaration match exactly, so the container is not held for re-inspection.

  3. Sea corridor

The Red Sea is unavoidable for Aqaba

Aqaba is reached only through the Red Sea: either through Bab-el-Mandeb from the south or round Africa and down through Suez. After Houthi attacks on southern Saudi Arabia in September 2026, including Aramco facilities at Jazan, and a declared 'maritime embargo', container lines were choosing their Red Sea calls selectively, and many ships switched off AIS.

What Anxin does: We ask each carrier how it currently reaches Aqaba (through Bab-el-Mandeb on the same vessel, via a transhipment hub, or from the north via Suez) and name that routing, and any war-risk or emergency surcharge the carrier applies, in the written quote.

  4. Destination port

Yard, direct delivery or security committee: the terminal decides

At Aqaba Container Terminal the agent emails the DG arrival declaration and MSDS to the terminal at least 24 hours before the ship arrives, and the terminal confirms how each container will be handled: yard storage, direct delivery or a security committee procedure. For the last two, the consignee's trucks must be waiting at least 2 hours before the crane starts on that bay.

What Anxin does: We send the SDS with the DG declaration at booking and tell the importer to have trucks and its clearance agent ready in case Aqaba assigns direct delivery.

  5. Import country

Electronic declaration by an authorised forwarding agent, invoice in Arabic

Only an authorised forwarding agent in Jordan can process the customs declaration, and it must be filed electronically. The invoice can be in English, but the importer has to provide an Arabic translation, usually written on the invoice itself.

What Anxin does: We send the invoice and packing list to the forwarding agent early enough for the Arabic translation and electronic filing to be done before discharge at Aqaba.

Documents & compliance

What to have ready: Shenzhen to Aqaba

Test reports, safety data sheets and import certificates come from the shipper, factory and importer, not from Anxin; our part is to review them before booking.

At the Shenzhen end

  • Confirmation from the carrier of the DG cut-off at Yantian or Shekou, rechecked in typhoon weeks
  • Safety data sheet and dangerous goods safe-carriage declaration for the MSA cargo report
  • Customs packaging use-appraisal result for the dangerous goods packaging (with the maker's performance appraisal)
  • Container packing certificate signed by a certified packing inspector after supervised stuffing
  • Transport-condition classification report where applicable

For the shipping line

  • Carrier's current routing into the Red Sea and any transhipment port, stated on the booking
  • UN 38.3 test summary for every cell and battery type
  • Dangerous goods declaration with UN number (3480 / 3481 / 3090 / 3091), proper shipping name and packing instruction (P903, or P908/P911 for damaged)

At the Jordan end

  • Trucks and agent ready if direct delivery is assigned
  • Arabic translation of the commercial invoice

Before you book

One consistent file

A document that is present but inconsistent holds a booking as surely as a missing one: the UN number, model name or carton count reads differently in the Shenzhen export filings, the carrier booking and the Jordan import papers. We compare all three before confirming space.

Carriers we book with

Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.

Questions

Common questions on the Shenzhen → Aqaba route

No, but the importer must provide an Arabic translation, and only an authorised forwarding agent can file the electronic customs declaration.

The JMIC rated the Gulf of Aden SUBSTANTIAL in September 2026, with piracy and attacks a strong possibility, and four merchant vessels hijacked off Somalia in 2026 were still held. We confirm the carrier's routing and security surcharges at each booking.

Yes, provided a certified packing inspector supervises the stuffing and signs the container packing certificate. Since May 2026 Yantian and Dongguan MSA have also piloted joint factory inspection so the container can be loaded at Yantian without reopening; we check whether your shipment can use it.
