From Shenzhen to Ancona, cargo moves out of Shenzhen's Yantian and Shekou terminals, crosses a Suez corridor that Mediterranean services are using again more than any other Asia–Europe lane, and is discharged at the port of Ancona.

The Italian side adds the registropile.it registration to the EU battery rules. This page sets out 5 points specific to this route, how Anxin handles each one and which documents to prepare.

Route profile

What sets Shenzhen → Ancona apart

Origin port

Shenzhen (Yantian / Shekou)

Pearl River Delta battery cargo, often stuffed at factories in Dongguan or Huizhou, exported through Yantian or Shekou, with a typhoon season from June to October.

Sea corridor

Asia – Mediterranean via Suez

Mediterranean services are the ones most likely to use Suez again (57% in September 2026), which puts the cargo back through Bab el-Mandeb, rated a SUBSTANTIAL threat.

Where this route gets difficult

What to watch between Shenzhen and Ancona: 5 points

They run from the Shenzhen terminal through the voyage to Ancona and the Italy import file.

  1. Origin port

    Cut-offs in Shenzhen's typhoon weeks

June to October is the regional tropical cyclone season according to the Hong Kong Observatory, peaking July to September. Because DG boxes need approved MSA filings and a signed packing certificate before loading, a gate closure or rolled vessel in those weeks can move the entire document chain to another sailing.

What Anxin does: From June to October we build slack into the stuffing date, confirm the DG cut-off with the carrier the week before loading, and resubmit filings promptly if the vessel changes.

  2. Sea corridor

Suez is the likelier routing for Ancona

Asia–Mediterranean services used the Red Sea 57% of the time in September 2026 according to Sea-Intelligence, compared with 27% for North Europe, so a box for Ancona most probably goes via Suez and through Bab el-Mandeb. The JMIC rated that strait SUBSTANTIAL on 24 September 2026; the Houthis call their blockade selective and now hold Perim Island in the channel.

What Anxin does: We ask the carrier which routing its service to Ancona uses and name it on the quote, together with any war-risk or emergency surcharge.

  3. Import country

The register number belongs on invoices and delivery papers

Once registered, the producer has 30 days to show its register number on all commercial documents, and each year by 31 March it reports the batteries placed on the Italian market. If the batteries arrive inside equipment, the importer is also an EEE producer and needs the separate RAEE register.

What Anxin does: We put the Italian register number the importer gives us on the commercial invoice we prepare with the shipper, and ask whether the goods are loose batteries or built into equipment.

  4. Import country

The truck leg out of Ancona runs under ADR

Once the container leaves the terminal by road, ADR applies: Directive 2008/68/EC makes EU countries use it for domestic dangerous goods journeys as well as international ones. UN 3480 is class 9, transport category 2, with tunnel restriction code (E), so the haulier in Italy has to plan around category E tunnels, and damaged or defective batteries fall under special provision 376 and packing instructions P908 or P911 instead of P903.

What Anxin does: We give the Italy haulier the same UN number, class and package details that appear on the sea dangerous goods declaration, so the ADR transport document matches the container paperwork from Shenzhen.

  5. Import country

Supply-chain due diligence moved to August 2027

The Battery Regulation's due diligence obligations on cobalt, lithium, nickel and natural graphite were postponed by Regulation (EU) 2025/1561 and now apply from 18 August 2027, with Commission guidelines due by 26 July 2026. Buyers in Italy are already asking suppliers for the supply-chain data they will need.

What Anxin does: We pass the Italy buyer's due diligence questions to the manufacturer and keep their answers with the shipment file; the policy itself remains the producer's responsibility.

Documents & compliance

What to have ready: Shenzhen to Ancona

Test reports, safety data sheets and import certificates come from the shipper, factory and importer, not from Anxin; our part is to review them before booking.

Send the file once, complete

Most delays on this route start with a document that exists but does not match: a UN number, a model name or a package count that differs between the Shenzhen filings, the carrier booking and the Italy import file. We check the three against each other before the booking is confirmed.

Carriers we book with

Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.

Questions

Common questions on the Shenzhen → Ancona route

Not directly. A producer not established in Italy registers through its own representative in Italy, whose Chamber of Commerce handles the filing on registropile.it with a digital signature.

Often: in September 2026, 57% of Asia–Mediterranean services used the Red Sea routing. Bab el-Mandeb was rated a SUBSTANTIAL threat by the JMIC on 24 September 2026, so we confirm each service's routing before booking.

Yes, provided a certified packing inspector supervises the stuffing and signs the container packing certificate. Since May 2026 Yantian and Dongguan MSA have also piloted joint factory inspection so the container can be loaded at Yantian without reopening; we check whether your shipment can use it.
