From Shenzhen to Vassiliko Bay, cargo moves from factories around the Pearl River Delta through Yantian or Shekou, crosses a Suez corridor that Mediterranean services are using again more than any other Asia–Europe lane, and is discharged at the port of Vassiliko Bay.

Cyprus applies the EU Battery Regulation, starting with registration in its own national producer register. The 6 points below are particular to this lane; each comes with what we do and the paperwork it touches.

What we need to start

  • Typhoon season Jun–Oct
  • Yantian / Shekou export
  • Consignee EORI
  • National producer registration
  • EU declaration of conformity

Route profile

What sets Shenzhen → Vassiliko Bay apart

Origin port

Shenzhen (Yantian / Shekou)

Pearl River Delta battery cargo, often stuffed at factories in Dongguan or Huizhou, exported through Yantian or Shekou, with a typhoon season from June to October.

Sea corridor

Asia – Mediterranean via Suez

Mediterranean services are the ones most likely to use Suez again (57% in September 2026), which puts the cargo back through Bab el-Mandeb, rated a SUBSTANTIAL threat.

Where this route gets difficult

What to watch between Shenzhen and Vassiliko Bay: 6 points

Loading port first, then the sea leg, then Vassiliko Bay and the Cyprus market.

  1. Origin port

Dongguan's packaging certificate data is shared

Dongguan, home to more than 500 battery companies, supplies much of the cargo leaving Shenzhen. Since September 2026 Dongguan Customs and Dongguan MSA share dangerous-goods packaging certificate data, described as a first in China, and act jointly against concealed and false declarations; the one-box route to Yantian, 409 containers by then, relies on the same record.

What Anxin does: We compare the packaging certificate with the MSA cargo report (UN number, packaging code, number of packages) before either goes in, so the shared data shows no gap.

  2. Origin port

    Cut-offs in Shenzhen's typhoon weeks

June to October is the regional tropical cyclone season according to the Hong Kong Observatory, peaking July to September. Because DG boxes need approved MSA filings and a signed packing certificate before loading, a gate closure or rolled vessel in those weeks can move the entire document chain to another sailing.

What Anxin does: From June to October we build slack into the stuffing date, confirm the DG cut-off with the carrier the week before loading, and resubmit filings promptly if the vessel changes.

  3. Sea corridor

The inbound leg's emissions now count under EU ETS

Because Vassiliko Bay is an EU port, container ships of 5,000 GT or more calling there fall under the EU Emissions Trading System, which covers half the emissions of the voyage from China. Lines surrendered allowances for 70% of those emissions in 2025 and must cover 100% from 2027, a cost that can reach shippers as a surcharge.

What Anxin does: We ask for the emissions surcharge to be shown as its own line in the quote, with the basis the carrier uses, so that successive quotes can be compared like for like.

  4. Import country

A producer registration in Cyprus before the first sale

Registration under the Battery Regulation is Member State by Member State. The first company to make the batteries available in Cyprus has to appear in the national register, which can take up to 12 weeks after a complete file, and a non-resident brand must work through an authorised representative there.

What Anxin does: At booking we ask which company is the producer of record in Cyprus and for its registration number there, so a missing registration surfaces while the goods are still in Shenzhen rather than after discharge in Vassiliko Bay.

  5. Import country

CE marking and a declaration of conformity in the right language

The importer in Cyprus carries the check: CE marking on the battery and an EU declaration of conformity, translated into the language Cyprus asks for, have both been required since 18 August 2024 for batteries entering the EU market.

What Anxin does: We ask the manufacturer in China for the declaration of conformity and a photo of the CE marking on the battery or its packaging before loading, and pass them to the Cyprus importer. We check that the documents exist and match the goods; we do not assess conformity.

  6. Import country

Battery label from August 2026, QR code from February 2027

The Battery Regulation's general information label applies from 18 August 2026 (or 18 months after the label implementing act, if later), and every battery needs a QR code from 18 February 2027, linked to a battery passport for EV, LMT and industrial batteries above 2 kWh. Where the battery is too small, both go on the packaging and accompanying documents.

What Anxin does: Before booking we ask the Cyprus importer to confirm the battery category and whether the label and QR-code elements are already on the goods, and compare carton photos with that answer.

Documents & compliance

Checklist for Shenzhen → Vassiliko Bay

These documents come from the shipper, the manufacturer and the importer. Anxin checks them against each other; it does not issue test reports, safety data sheets or import certificates.

In Shenzhen, before the box is loaded

  • Annex V safety documentation confirmed for stationary storage systems
  • Substance declaration covering mercury, cadmium and lead limits
  • Safety data sheet and dangerous goods safe-carriage declaration for the MSA cargo report
  • Customs packaging use-appraisal result for the dangerous goods packaging (with the maker's performance appraisal)

For the shipping line

  • Routing (Red Sea or Cape) and any war-risk surcharge stated on the booking
  • Consignee EORI and HS-level description to the ENS filer before loading
  • UN 38.3 test summary for every cell and battery type

At the Cyprus end

Before you book

Send the file once, complete

Most delays on this route start with a document that exists but does not match: a UN number, a model name or a package count that differs between the Shenzhen filings, the carrier booking and the Cyprus import file. We check the three against each other before the booking is confirmed.

Carriers we book with

Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.

Questions

Questions about shipping from Shenzhen to Vassiliko Bay

No. Under the Battery Regulation producers register in each Member State where they first make batteries available, and the authority has up to 12 weeks to grant a complete application. A producer without an establishment in Cyprus needs an authorised representative there.

Often: in September 2026, 57% of Asia–Mediterranean services used the Red Sea routing. Bab el-Mandeb was rated a SUBSTANTIAL threat by the JMIC on 24 September 2026, so we confirm each service's routing before booking.

Since September 2026 Dongguan Customs and Dongguan MSA share dangerous-goods packaging certificate data and act jointly against false declarations, so the packaging certificate and the MSA filing should match exactly.
