From Shenzhen to Yarmouth, cargo moves out of Shenzhen's Yantian and Shekou terminals, crosses a corridor through the Panama Canal, and is discharged at the port of Yarmouth.

Canadian clearance depends on eManifest data filed before loading and on the importer's CARM set-up. The 5 points below are particular to this lane; each comes with what we do and the paperwork it touches.

What we need to start

  • Typhoon season Jun–Oct
  • Yantian / Shekou export
  • Bilingual labels
  • eManifest cut-off
  • CARM account

Where this route gets difficult

5 points to plan for on the Shenzhen → Yarmouth route

Loading port first, then the sea leg, then Yarmouth and the Canada market.

  1. Origin port

Dongguan's packaging certificate data is shared

Dongguan, home to more than 500 battery companies, supplies much of the cargo leaving Shenzhen. Since September 2026 Dongguan Customs and Dongguan MSA share dangerous-goods packaging certificate data, described as a first in China, and act jointly against concealed and false declarations; the one-box route to Yantian, 409 containers by then, relies on the same record.

What Anxin does: We compare the packaging certificate with the MSA cargo report (UN number, packaging code, number of packages) before either goes in, so the shared data shows no gap.

  2. Origin port

Factory stuffing in Dongguan, loading at Yantian: avoid a second opening

Much Shenzhen battery export is stuffed inland and trucked to the terminal. In May 2026 Yantian MSA and Dongguan MSA ran a cross-regional 'one-box' pilot: four battery containers were inspected jointly at the Dongguan factory and loaded at Yantian without being opened again. It shows that the inspection record made at the factory is what matters at the terminal.

What Anxin does: We ask at booking whether your factory and the terminal's MSA office can use the one-box arrangement, and we have stuffing photos, the packing certificate and the DG declaration match exactly, so the container is not held for re-inspection.

  3. Sea corridor

Hurricane season on the Caribbean side

The Atlantic hurricane season, covering the Caribbean and the Gulf of America, runs from 1 June to 30 November, peaking around 10 September, with an average of 14 named storms. Ports on the way to Yarmouth close ahead of storms, and ships wait or divert.

What Anxin does: For August–October arrivals we build slack into delivery plans and pass the carrier's revised arrival straight to your consignee.

  4. Import country

eManifest: cargo data 24 hours before loading in Shenzhen

The CBSA requires marine carriers to transmit cargo and conveyance data for containers at least 24 hours before loading at the foreign port, including the estimated loading time. If the data are amended electronically before departure, the 24-hour count starts again from the CBSA's acknowledgement, so a late correction can push a box for Yarmouth off its vessel.

What Anxin does: We send the carrier the final cargo description, UN number, weights and consignee details before the cut-off in Shenzhen and avoid amendments after the filing.

  5. Import country

    Nova Scotia's household battery stewardship

Nova Scotia requires producers of household batteries under 5 kg to run or join an approved stewardship program. Since 1 July 2024 brand owners fund and manage it, and retailers may not sell batteries from brand owners who are not in a program.

What Anxin does: For household batteries arriving at Yarmouth for Nova Scotia retail, we ask whether the brand owner participates in the approved program before booking.

Documents & compliance

Checklist for Shenzhen → Yarmouth

These documents come from the shipper, the manufacturer and the importer. Anxin checks them against each other; it does not issue test reports, safety data sheets or import certificates.

In Shenzhen, before the box is loaded

  • Confirmation from the carrier of the DG cut-off at Yantian or Shekou, rechecked in typhoon weeks
  • Bilingual (English/French) retail labelling checked on artwork
  • Safety data sheet and dangerous goods safe-carriage declaration for the MSA cargo report
  • Customs packaging use-appraisal result for the dangerous goods packaging (with the maker's performance appraisal)
  • Container packing certificate signed by a certified packing inspector after supervised stuffing

For the carrier and the voyage

  • Canal routing and any canal-related surcharge confirmed for the booked vessel
  • Condition statement: new, used, damaged/defective (SP376) or for recycling (SP377)
  • Final cargo data with the carrier before the eManifest cut-off; no amendments after filing

For the importer in Canada

  • English DG documents with a 24-hour number for the Canadian road leg
  • Importer's CARM account and release-prior-to-payment security confirmed

Before you book

One consistent file

A document that is present but inconsistent holds a booking as surely as a missing one: the UN number, model name or carton count reads differently in the Shenzhen export filings, the carrier booking and the Canada import papers. We compare all three before confirming space.

Carriers we book with

Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.

Questions

Common questions on the Shenzhen → Yarmouth route

Yes. TDG s. 9.3 allows IMDG documentation and marks for an international consignment going to or from a port, provided the document is legible in English or French and carries a 24-hour number.

1 June to 30 November, peaking around 10 September, according to the US National Hurricane Center.

Since September 2026 Dongguan Customs and Dongguan MSA share dangerous-goods packaging certificate data and act jointly against false declarations, so the packaging certificate and the MSA filing should match exactly.
