From Shenzhen to Tuktoyaktuk, cargo moves out of Shenzhen's Yantian and Shekou terminals, crosses a great-circle crossing of the North Pacific, and is discharged at the port of Tuktoyaktuk.

Canadian clearance depends on eManifest data filed before loading and on the importer's CARM set-up. The 5 points below are particular to this lane; each comes with what we do and the paperwork it touches.

What we need to start

  • Typhoon season Jun–Oct
  • Yantian / Shekou export
  • Bilingual labels

How Shenzhen → Tuktoyaktuk differs from other lanes

Sea corridor

Transpacific (North Pacific)

A North Pacific crossing with no canal or chokepoint risk, but with a record of winter storms strong enough to collapse container stacks.

Canada

Container data due 24 hours before loading, CARM security for release before payment, and a road leg that accepts IMDG papers under Canadian conditions.

Where this route gets difficult

What to watch between Shenzhen and Tuktoyaktuk: 5 points

They run from the Shenzhen terminal through the voyage to Tuktoyaktuk and the Canada import file.

  1. Origin port

    Cut-offs in Shenzhen's typhoon weeks

June to October is the regional tropical cyclone season according to the Hong Kong Observatory, peaking July to September. Because DG boxes need approved MSA filings and a signed packing certificate before loading, a gate closure or rolled vessel in those weeks can move the entire document chain to another sailing.

What Anxin does: From June to October we build slack into the stuffing date, confirm the DG cut-off with the carrier the week before loading, and resubmit filings promptly if the vessel changes.

  2. Origin port

Inspected in Dongguan, loaded unopened at Yantian

A large share of Shenzhen's battery exports is stuffed inland and trucked to the quay. In a May 2026 cross-regional 'one-box' pilot, Yantian MSA and Dongguan MSA jointly inspected four battery containers at a Dongguan factory and loaded them at Yantian without reopening them, which shows that the factory inspection record is what counts at the terminal.

What Anxin does: We ask at booking whether your factory and the terminal's MSA office can use the one-box arrangement, and we have stuffing photos, the packing certificate and the DG declaration match exactly, so the container is not held for re-inspection.

  3. Sea corridor

Hurricane-force winter storms, October to April

NOAA's Ocean Prediction Center has recorded hurricane-force winds (64 knots or more) in mid-latitude North Pacific storms in every month from October to April, most often in December, with 15 to 23 such storms a season in its 2001–2004 study. These are not tropical systems, so they arrive outside typhoon season.

What Anxin does: For October–April sailings we check blocking and bracing on stuffing photos before sealing and confirm the full DG data are on the manifest.

  4. Import country

IMDG papers work on the road leg, with Canadian conditions

TDG Regulations s. 9.3 let an international consignment move by road to or from Tuktoyaktuk under IMDG classification, marks, labels and documents. The shipping document must still be legible in English or French and show a 24-hour telephone number, and a container must carry placards under TDG Part 4 or the IMDG Code.

What Anxin does: We check that the DG declaration is in English, carries a 24-hour number that the consignee has arranged and matches the container's placards before the documents go to the Canadian trucker.

  5. Import country

eManifest: cargo data 24 hours before loading in Shenzhen

The CBSA requires marine carriers to transmit cargo and conveyance data for containers at least 24 hours before loading at the foreign port, including the estimated loading time. If the data are amended electronically before departure, the 24-hour count starts again from the CBSA's acknowledgement, so a late correction can push a box for Tuktoyaktuk off its vessel.

What Anxin does: We send the carrier the final cargo description, UN number, weights and consignee details before the cut-off in Shenzhen and avoid amendments after the filing.

Documents to line up for Shenzhen → Tuktoyaktuk

Anxin reviews documents supplied by the shipper, manufacturer and importer; it does not issue test reports, safety data sheets or import certificates.

In Shenzhen, before the box is loaded

  • Bilingual (English/French) retail labelling checked on artwork
  • Safety data sheet and dangerous goods safe-carriage declaration for the MSA cargo report

For the shipping line

  • Stuffing photos before, during and after packing, checked for blocking and bracing

Send the file once, complete

Most delays on this route start with a document that exists but does not match: a UN number, a model name or a package count that differs between the Shenzhen filings, the carrier booking and the Canada import file. We check the three against each other before the booking is confirmed.

Carriers we book with

Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.

Questions

Questions about shipping from Shenzhen to Tuktoyaktuk

Yes. TDG s. 9.3 allows IMDG documentation and marks for an international consignment going to or from a port, provided the document is legible in English or French and carries a 24-hour number.

Weather is the main risk on this crossing: NOAA recorded hurricane-force North Pacific storms from October to April, most often in December. We tighten the packing checks for those sailings.

Yes, provided a certified packing inspector supervises the stuffing and signs the container packing certificate. Since May 2026 Yantian and Dongguan MSA have also piloted joint factory inspection so the container can be loaded at Yantian without reopening; we check whether your shipment can use it.
