From Qingdao to Gemlik, cargo moves out of Qingdao on the Yellow Sea, crosses a Suez corridor that Mediterranean services are using again more than any other Asia–Europe lane, and is discharged at the port of Gemlik.
Türkiye checks battery imports through TAREKS before the customs declaration is registered. Below are 5 route-specific points to plan for, what we do about each, and the documents to have ready before booking.
What we need to start
Route profile
Qianwan exports from Shandong, where Qingdao MSA's one-document pilot cuts repeat filings for cargo moved between terminals by water.
Mediterranean services are the ones most likely to use Suez again (57% in September 2026), which puts the cargo back through Bab el-Mandeb, rated a SUBSTANTIAL threat.

Where this route gets difficult
In the order the cargo meets them: at the loading port, at sea, at Gemlik and at customs in Turkey.
Since November 2024 Qingdao MSA's 'one-document, one-box' pilot has covered water-to-water transhipment of lithium batteries and other 'new three' cargo between Dagang and Qianwan: one outbound cargo report and at most one packing inspection inside the pilot ports. In the launch example, filings fell from three cargo plus three ship reports to one cargo plus two ship reports.
What Anxin does: If your cargo is stuffed at a Dagang yard or reaches Qianwan by water, we check at booking whether it qualifies for the pilot and file once, so the box is not reopened between terminals.
Services that avoid the Red Sea, 43% of the Mediterranean total, go round the Cape of Good Hope and re-enter through Gibraltar. SAMSA estimates that about 200 of the 576 containers lost at sea in 2024, 35% of the total, went overboard near the Cape.
What Anxin does: On Cape sailings we apply the CINS blocking and bracing checks strictly on stuffing photos before sealing.
Under Communiqué 2017/15, battery imports are inspected through the TAREKS system on a risk-analysis basis, and the inspection happens before the customs declaration can be registered. The importer is legally responsible for the goods' compliance, so conformity documents need to be ready when the container reaches Gemlik.
What Anxin does: We send the importer the manufacturer's declaration of conformity, test reports and product photos before loading, for its TAREKS application.
For products under EU CE-marking directives, Türkiye asks for evidence of CE marking, either a notified-body certificate or a manufacturer's declaration of conformity citing the directives and harmonised standards. The commercial invoice goes in triplicate with HS code and origin, the certificate of origin must have no corrections, and the original bill of lading plus three copies must match.
What Anxin does: We check the declaration of conformity, invoice and certificate of origin against each other before the originals are sent to the importer in Turkey.
In Türkiye a distributor may not sell a battery brand that has no collection system behind it and must take back waste batteries free of charge, so the brand's registration decides whether stock can go on sale.
What Anxin does: We ask the importer to confirm the brand is registered in its collection system before the first shipment leaves Qingdao.

Documents & compliance
Anxin reviews documents supplied by the shipper, manufacturer and importer; it does not issue test reports, safety data sheets or import certificates.

We line up UN numbers, model names and package counts across the Qingdao filings, the booking with the carrier and the documents for Turkey before the booking is confirmed, so that a mismatch is fixed at origin rather than discovered at Gemlik.
Carriers we book with
Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.
Risk & mitigation
| Risk | Where | Mitigation | Who acts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Duplicate filing or reopening between Qingdao terminals | Dagang → Qianwan | Pilot eligibility checked at booking; single cargo report | Anxin with the declarant |
| Heavy weather off South Africa on a Cape sailing | Cape of Good Hope | CINS stuffing checks | Packing site, checked by Anxin |
| TAREKS inspection delays the customs declaration | Port of discharge | Conformity documents sent before loading | Importer / manufacturer |
Questions
Yes. Under Communiqué 2017/15 battery imports go through a risk-based TAREKS inspection before the customs declaration is registered.
Often: in September 2026, 57% of Asia–Mediterranean services used the Red Sea routing. Bab el-Mandeb was rated a SUBSTANTIAL threat by the JMIC on 24 September 2026, so we confirm each service's routing before booking.
Under Qingdao MSA's 'one-document, one-box' pilot (since November 2024), water-to-water transhipment between Dagang and Qianwan needs one outbound cargo report and at most one packing inspection. We confirm eligibility at booking.
