This route runs out of Qingdao on the Yellow Sea, where April to July is fog season, then follows a long Europe voyage extended through the Danish straits into the Baltic; at the far end is a Baltic port where the harbour master sets conditions for handling each dangerous-goods cargo.
Poland expects the importer to hold a BDO register entry for batteries. Below are 6 route-specific points to plan for, what we do about each, and the documents to have ready before booking.
What we need to start
Route profile
Qianwan exports from Shandong, where Qingdao MSA's one-document pilot cuts repeat filings for cargo moved between terminals by water.
Dangerous goods declared through Poland's National Single Window 24 hours before arrival, with the harbour master's consent and conditions for handling.

Where this route gets difficult
Listed from loading in Qingdao to import into Poland, each with what we do about it.
Shandong MSA has issued a waterway safe-transport guide specifically for lithium battery energy storage systems at Shandong coastal ports, so ESS units shipped from Qingdao should be prepared with that provincial guide in mind as well as the IMDG Code.
What Anxin does: For ESS cargo we review the unit's packing and securing plan against the Shandong guide with the packing site before booking.
Up to the Danish straits the voyage matches North Europe's: Sea-Intelligence put Red Sea routing at 27% for North Europe services in September 2026, so most containers still sail round the Cape of Good Hope, where SAMSA estimates about 35% of the containers lost in 2024 went overboard.
What Anxin does: We quote the Suez and Cape routings separately when both are offered and apply the CINS stuffing checks strictly on Cape sailings.
In the ports supervised by the Maritime Office in Gdynia, the dangerous goods on an arriving ship are declared through the National Single Window at least 24 hours ahead, or on departure from the previous port on a short leg, which is common for Baltic feeders. The harbour master then gives consent and sets conditions for entry and handling.
What Anxin does: Because most Chinese cargo reaches Gdynia by feeder, we check the DG data are final before the mainline ship leaves Qingdao, so the feeder's declaration is not built on a draft.
The Battery Regulation's due diligence obligations on cobalt, lithium, nickel and natural graphite were postponed by Regulation (EU) 2025/1561 and now apply from 18 August 2027, with Commission guidelines due by 26 July 2026. Buyers in Poland are already asking suppliers for the supply-chain data they will need.
What Anxin does: We pass the Poland buyer's due diligence questions to the manufacturer and keep their answers with the shipment file; the policy itself remains the producer's responsibility.
For portable batteries, Annex I sets maximum levels of 0.0005 % mercury, 0.002 % cadmium and 0.01 % lead by weight, the lead limit applying since 18 August 2024. The importer in Poland may be asked by market surveillance to demonstrate compliance.
What Anxin does: We ask the manufacturer for its substance declaration or test report reference and file it with the shipping documents for the Poland importer; we do not test batteries.
From 18 February 2027, Article 11 requires portable batteries built into appliances to be readily removable and replaceable by the end-user with commercially available tools, without heat or solvents, apart from limited derogations. Appliances shipped to Poland for sale after that date need a design that meets the rule.
What Anxin does: When appliances with built-in batteries are booked for Poland we point the importer to the February 2027 date so the manufacturer answers the design question before shipment; we do not assess compliance.

Documents & compliance
Test reports, safety data sheets and import certificates come from the shipper, factory and importer, not from Anxin; our part is to review them before booking.

We line up UN numbers, model names and package counts across the Qingdao filings, the booking with the carrier and the documents for Poland before the booking is confirmed, so that a mismatch is fixed at origin rather than discovered at Gdynia.
Carriers we book with
Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.
Risk & mitigation
| Risk | Where | Mitigation | Who acts |

Questions
ADR, which the EU applies to domestic journeys through Directive 2008/68/EC. UN 3480 is class 9, transport category 2, with tunnel restriction code (E).
Often, but it depends on the service. The Baltic is reached through the Danish straits, and we ask the carrier to name any transhipment port and confirm DG acceptance for each vessel.
Mainly April to July, according to the China Meteorological Administration, which calls sea fog a major hazard for Yellow Sea transport.
