This route runs from Shandong through Qingdao's Qianwan terminals, where Qingdao MSA pilots one-document transhipment, then follows a long Europe voyage extended through the Danish straits into the Baltic; at the far end is the port of Klaipeda.

The Lithuania side follows the EU battery and customs pre-filing rules. This page sets out 5 points specific to this route, how Anxin handles each one and which documents to prepare.

What we need to start

  • One-document pilot
  • Fog season Apr–Jul
  • National producer registration
  • EU declaration of conformity
  • Consignee EORI

Route profile

What sets Qingdao → Klaipeda apart

Origin port

Qingdao (Qianwan)

Qianwan exports from Shandong, where Qingdao MSA's one-document pilot cuts repeat filings for cargo moved between terminals by water.

Sea corridor

Asia – Baltic via the Danish straits

The Baltic is reached only through the Danish straits, where deep-draught ships are advised to take pilots, and its northern ports set ice-class restrictions every winter.

Where this route gets difficult

What to watch between Qingdao and Klaipeda: 5 points

They run from the Qingdao terminal through the voyage to Klaipeda and the Lithuania import file.

  1. Origin port

One filing for transhipment between Qingdao terminals

Qingdao MSA's 'one-document, one-box' pilot has since November 2024 covered water-to-water transhipment of lithium batteries and other 'new three' cargo between Dagang and Qianwan, with one outbound cargo report and no more than one packing inspection within the pilot ports. In the launch case, three cargo and three ship reports became one cargo and two ship reports.

What Anxin does: If your cargo is stuffed at a Dagang yard or reaches Qianwan by water, we check at booking whether it qualifies for the pilot and file once, so the box is not reopened between terminals.

  2. Origin port

Qingdao's fog season runs April to July

The China Meteorological Administration describes sea fog as one of the major marine hazards of the Yellow and Bohai Seas, with the season mainly from April to July and a serious effect on sea transport. Fog holds at Qingdao can move a battery box to another vessel, and the DG filings have to move with it.

What Anxin does: In fog season we leave slack between stuffing and the DG cut-off at Qianwan and keep the cargo report ready to amend quickly if the vessel changes.

  3. Sea corridor

Through the Danish straits, possibly on a feeder

Cargo for Klaipeda has to pass the Danish straits. IMO recommends pilots on Route T for ships of 11 m draught or more, and the Danish Maritime Authority reports ships that ignore the recommendation to their flag state. Whether the box stays on one vessel or is transhipped onto a feeder at a North Sea port, each vessel has to accept the UN numbers.

What Anxin does: We ask the carrier to name any transhipment port and the feeder operator on the booking and confirm DG acceptance for that leg as well as the mainline.

  4. Import country

The importer's name and address on the battery

The Battery Regulation asks the importer to put its own name, registered trade name or trade mark and postal address, with a single contact point, on the battery. Only when the battery's size or nature makes that impossible may the details move to the packaging or an accompanying document, so a Lithuania importer's details need to reach the factory before printing.

What Anxin does: We pass the Lithuania importer's name and address block to the manufacturer before the goods are packed in China and check carton or battery photos for it before loading.

  5. Import country

A producer registration in Lithuania before the first sale

Registration under the Battery Regulation is Member State by Member State. The first company to make the batteries available in Lithuania has to appear in the national register, which can take up to 12 weeks after a complete file, and a non-resident brand must work through an authorised representative there.

What Anxin does: At booking we ask which company is the producer of record in Lithuania and for its registration number there, so a missing registration surfaces while the goods are still in Qingdao rather than after discharge in Klaipeda.

Before you book

Match the details first

We line up UN numbers, model names and package counts across the Qingdao filings, the booking with the carrier and the documents for Lithuania before the booking is confirmed, so that a mismatch is fixed at origin rather than discovered at Klaipeda.

Carriers we book with

Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.
