This route runs from Shandong through Qingdao's Qianwan terminals, where Qingdao MSA pilots one-document transhipment, then follows a long voyage ending in the North Atlantic or the Gulf of St Lawrence; at the far end is the port of Iqaluit.

Canada adds an eManifest that closes 24 hours before loading and a CARM account that decides whether goods are released before duty is paid. The 5 points below are particular to this lane; each comes with what we do and the paperwork it touches.

What we need to start

  • Fog season Apr–Jul
  • Qianwan export
  • eManifest cut-off
  • CARM account
  • Bilingual labels

Where this route gets difficult

5 points to plan for on the Qingdao → Iqaluit route

Loading port first, then the sea leg, then Iqaluit and the Canada market.

  1. Origin port

Moving between Qingdao terminals should not mean filing twice

Since November 2024 Qingdao MSA's 'one-document, one-box' pilot has covered water-to-water transhipment of lithium batteries and other 'new three' cargo between Dagang and Qianwan: one outbound cargo report and at most one packing inspection inside the pilot ports. In the launch example, filings fell from three cargo plus three ship reports to one cargo plus two ship reports.

What Anxin does: If your cargo is stuffed at a Dagang yard or reaches Qianwan by water, we check at booking whether it qualifies for the pilot and file once, so the box is not reopened between terminals.

  2. Origin port

Qingdao's fog season runs April to July

The China Meteorological Administration describes sea fog as one of the major marine hazards of the Yellow and Bohai Seas, with the season mainly from April to July and a serious effect on sea transport. Fog holds at Qingdao can move a battery box to another vessel, and the DG filings have to move with it.

What Anxin does: In fog season we leave slack between stuffing and the DG cut-off at Qianwan and keep the cargo report ready to amend quickly if the vessel changes.

  3. Sea corridor

January is the peak of North Atlantic winter storms

NOAA's Ocean Prediction Center has logged hurricane-force mid-latitude storms in the North Atlantic from October to April, most frequently in January, on the last leg of the voyage to Iqaluit.

What Anxin does: For winter sailings we check blocking and bracing on stuffing photos before sealing.

  4. Import country

eManifest: cargo data 24 hours before loading in Qingdao

The CBSA requires marine carriers to transmit cargo and conveyance data for containers at least 24 hours before loading at the foreign port, including the estimated loading time. If the data are amended electronically before departure, the 24-hour count starts again from the CBSA's acknowledgement, so a late correction can push a box for Iqaluit off its vessel.

What Anxin does: We send the carrier the final cargo description, UN number, weights and consignee details before the cut-off in Qingdao and avoid amendments after the filing.

  5. Import country

IMDG papers work on the road leg, with Canadian conditions

TDG Regulations s. 9.3 let an international consignment move by road to or from Iqaluit under IMDG classification, marks, labels and documents. The shipping document must still be legible in English or French and show a 24-hour telephone number, and a container must carry placards under TDG Part 4 or the IMDG Code.

What Anxin does: We check that the DG declaration is in English, carries a 24-hour number that the consignee has arranged and matches the container's placards before the documents go to the Canadian trucker.

Documents & compliance

Documents to line up for Qingdao → Iqaluit

These documents come from the shipper, the manufacturer and the importer. Anxin checks them against each other; it does not issue test reports, safety data sheets or import certificates.

Before loading in Qingdao

  • Confirmation whether the Dagang–Qianwan one-document pilot applies; a single cargo report filed at the first port of loading
  • Bilingual (English/French) retail labelling checked on artwork
  • Safety data sheet and dangerous goods safe-carriage declaration for the MSA cargo report
  • Customs packaging use-appraisal result for the dangerous goods packaging (with the maker's performance appraisal)
  • Container packing certificate signed by a certified packing inspector after supervised stuffing

For the shipping line

  • Final cargo data with the carrier before the eManifest cut-off; no amendments after filing
  • Condition statement: new, used, damaged/defective (SP376) or for recycling (SP377)
  • UN 38.3 test summary for every cell and battery type

At the Canada end

  • English DG documents with a 24-hour number for the Canadian road leg
  • Importer's CARM account and release-prior-to-payment security confirmed

Match the details first

We line up UN numbers, model names and package counts across the Qingdao filings, the booking with the carrier and the documents for Canada before the booking is confirmed, so that a mismatch is fixed at origin rather than discovered at Iqaluit.

Carriers we book with

Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.

Questions

Common questions on the Qingdao → Iqaluit route

Only if the importer is enrolled in release prior to payment with financial security posted in the CARM Client Portal. Since 20 May 2025, importers without security pay duties and taxes at release.

NOAA's storm study found hurricane-force winter storms from October to April, most often in January.

Under Qingdao MSA's 'one-document, one-box' pilot (since November 2024), water-to-water transhipment between Dagang and Qianwan needs one outbound cargo report and at most one packing inspection. We confirm eligibility at booking.
