This route runs through Ningbo's Beilun or Meishan terminals under Zhejiang MSA's 2026 battery guide, then follows a lane whose routing, Suez or Cape of Good Hope, is decided service by service; at the far end is the port of London.
Great Britain runs its own post-Brexit pre-filing and battery producer rules. This page sets out 6 points specific to this route, how Anxin handles each one and which documents to prepare.
What we need to start
London is listed for reference only while its commercial cargo use is being checked; no offer is made on this page.
Route profile
Beilun and Meishan exports under Zhejiang MSA's January 2026 battery guide, which trims duplicate filings but not the carrier's own document checks.
An EORI starting with GB or XI and a CDS subscription for customs, annual tonnage and chemistry reporting through the NPWD, and take-back duties for distributors above 32 kg a year.

Where this route gets difficult
Loading port first, then the sea leg, then London and the United Kingdom market.
For battery cargo moving water-to-water, Zhejiang MSA applies a 'one-document' rule: when the cargo report is filed at the loading port, the transhipment port only needs a ship report. Batteries barged into Ningbo can skip a second cargo report, as long as the first was correct.
What Anxin does: When cargo starts on a feeder or barge, we make sure the cargo report is filed at the first port of loading and carries the ocean routing, so no second cargo report is needed at Ningbo.
Since Zhejiang MSA's January 2026 battery guide, a Ningbo shipper no longer attaches the UN38.3 test summary at the MSA cargo-report stage (the carrier receives it instead) and does not resubmit the safety data sheet for an unchanged maker, owner and model. Carriers must still review the documents and turn away batteries that fail the ship-carriage standard JT/T 1543-2025.
What Anxin does: We send the UN38.3 summary and SDS to the carrier with the booking request, and keep a per-model file so repeat shipments use the SDS already on record.
The map on this page shows the corridor through Bab-el-Mandeb and Suez, but Sea-Intelligence figures for September 2026 put Red Sea routing on the Asia–Europe head-haul at 13–25%, with 27% for North Europe services and 57% for the Mediterranean. The service that calls at London decides between Suez and the Cape of Good Hope, and with it the distance, the waters and the possible transhipment ports.
What Anxin does: We ask the carrier to state the routing and any transhipment port on the booking confirmation, and we quote the two routings separately when both are on offer rather than mixing them.
Great Britain still labels batteries under the Batteries and Accumulators (Placing on the Market) Regulations 2008: a crossed-out wheeled bin symbol of a set minimum size on every battery, moved to the packaging only when the battery is too small or cannot practically be marked, and a capacity in mAh or Ah on portable rechargeables and on the front of their packaging.
What Anxin does: We compare carton and battery photos with the UK marking list before goods leave Ningbo, because relabelling after discharge at London means opening dangerous goods packages.
The Dangerous Goods in Harbour Areas Regulations 2016 bar bringing dangerous goods into a British harbour area without notice to the harbour master at least 24 hours ahead (and no more than six months), unless the harbour master agrees a shorter period. The notice carries UN numbers, names and quantities, so the vessel's data depend on the booking.
What Anxin does: We freeze the UN number, proper shipping name, package count and gross weight on the booking before departure and send any change to the carrier at once.
A UK producer placing more than a tonne of portable batteries a year must be in a battery compliance scheme, joined by 15 October before the compliance year; the scheme registers and reports for it. Smaller producers register themselves on the NPWD and report their tonnage and chemistry by 31 January.
What Anxin does: We ask the UK importer whether it is a large or small portable producer and which scheme covers it, and put battery weights per chemistry on the packing list.

Documents & compliance
These documents come from the shipper, the manufacturer and the importer. Anxin checks them against each other; it does not issue test reports, safety data sheets or import certificates.

We line up UN numbers, model names and package counts across the Ningbo filings, the booking with the carrier and the documents for United Kingdom before the booking is confirmed, so that a mismatch is fixed at origin rather than discovered at London.
Carriers we book with
Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.
Risk & mitigation
| Risk | Where | Mitigation | Who acts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Carrier rejects booking over UN38.3 / JT/T 1543-2025 documents | Ningbo booking stage | UN38.3 summary and SDS sent with the booking request | Shipper with Anxin |
| Service switches between Suez and Cape routing | Main voyage | Routing written on the booking; quotes kept separate per routing; packing assumes the longer voyage | Carrier, tracked by Anxin |
| Harbour notice late or wrong | London harbour area | DG data frozen before departure | Carrier / agent |
| Batteries arrive without the bin symbol or capacity marking | Importer in the UK | Photos checked against the UK marking list before loading | Manufacturer / importer |
Questions
HMRC's Customs Declaration Service. The importer or agent needs a GB (or XI) EORI number and a CDS subscription; HMRC grants access within 2 hours or up to 5 working days.
It depends on the service. In September 2026 most Asia–North Europe capacity still sailed round the Cape of Good Hope; Sea-Intelligence put the Red Sea share for North Europe vessels at 27%. We ask the carrier to confirm the routing on the booking and quote each routing separately.
Yes. Zhejiang MSA's 2026 guide removed it from the MSA cargo-report stage, but it still has to go to the carrier, which must refuse batteries that do not meet JT/T 1543-2025.
