South & Southeast Asia · sea freight from Ningbo
Ningbo to Banjarmasin
East China Sea · Taiwan Strait · South China Sea · Sulu Sea · Celebes Sea · Makassar Strait · Java Sea
This route runs through Ningbo's Beilun or Meishan terminals under Zhejiang MSA's 2026 battery guide, then follows a Southeast Asian sea passage with no canal on the way; at the far end is the port of Banjarmasin.
On the Indonesian side the importer's approvals matter: SNI for primary cells and an import approval for used batteries. Below are 5 route-specific points to plan for, what we do about each, and the documents to have ready before booking.
What we need to start
Route profile
Beilun and Meishan exports under Zhejiang MSA's January 2026 battery guide, which trims duplicate filings but not the carrier's own document checks.
Arrival notice and manifest before unloading, SNI for primary batteries, and controlled imports for anything used.

Where this route gets difficult
Listed from loading in Ningbo to import into Indonesia, each with what we do about it.
Zhejiang MSA's January 2026 battery guide lets the shipper skip the UN38.3 test summary at the MSA cargo-report stage (it goes to the carrier instead) and skip resubmitting the safety data sheet for the same maker, owner and model. The carrier, however, must still check the documents and refuse batteries that do not meet the ship-carriage standard JT/T 1543-2025.
What Anxin does: We send the UN38.3 summary and SDS to the carrier with the booking request, and keep a per-model file so repeat shipments use the SDS already on record.
Zhejiang MSA's January 2026 battery guide sets a concrete loading test: no half of the container's length may carry more than 60% of the cargo weight, and packages must be braced. On board, deck stowage should be inside fire-fighting coverage and shaded from direct sun, and under-deck stowage in holds with temperature probes.
What Anxin does: We ask for the load plan before stuffing and check the 60% split on the stuffing photos, and we pass the shading and away-from-heat stowage request to the carrier on the booking.
If the container for Banjarmasin relays in Singapore, the Port Master must receive a dangerous goods declaration at least 12 hours before the vessel arrives, for DG in transit as well as for DG discharged or loaded. At PSA terminals it goes through PORTNET, and storage of DG at the terminal needs the operator's approval.
What Anxin does: We give the carrier the UN number, class, packing group and packages at booking, so the Singapore declaration for the relay can be filed on time by the carrier's agent.
The Barito channel to Banjarmasin has an outer bar of about 6 m, and at low tide only about 5 m draft is available, so ships work to tide windows. Containers for Banjarmasin usually come on smaller vessels, and a missed window adds waiting time.
What Anxin does: We ask the carrier how the service reaches Banjarmasin and whether a tide-related delay is likely, and pass that to the consignee.
Permenperin 69/2024 made the SNI standard mandatory for primary batteries from 20 May 2025. Primary cells shipped to Banjarmasin without SNI certification and marking cannot be imported or sold, which matters for mixed shipments of devices and spare cells.
What Anxin does: When a shipment includes primary cells, we ask the importer for the SNI certificate and check the marking on carton photos before loading.

Documents & compliance
Test reports, safety data sheets and import certificates come from the shipper, factory and importer, not from Anxin; our part is to review them before booking.

Most delays on this route start with a document that exists but does not match: a UN number, a model name or a package count that differs between the Ningbo filings, the carrier booking and the Indonesia import file. We check the three against each other before the booking is confirmed.
Carriers we book with
Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.
Risk & mitigation
| Risk | Where | Mitigation | Who acts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Carrier rejects booking over UN38.3 / JT/T 1543-2025 documents | Ningbo booking stage | UN38.3 summary and SDS sent with the booking request | Shipper with Anxin |
| Uneven load rejected at the Ningbo packing check | Beilun / Meishan stuffing | Load plan checked before stuffing | Packing site, checked by Anxin |
Questions
Primary batteries have needed SNI certification and marking since 20 May 2025. Lithium-ion packs should be checked by the importer against the current SNI list.
It waits or moves to the next vessel. The dangerous goods declaration has to be refiled for that vessel, which is why we check DG acceptance for a back-up sailing in typhoon months.
Zhejiang MSA's 2026 guide says the cargo weight in any half of the container's length should not exceed 60% of the total, with every package braced and checked for damage and marks.
