Ningbo to Wyndham
East China Sea · Philippine Sea · Molucca Sea · Banda Sea · Timor Sea
This route runs from Zhejiang's battery and energy-storage makers via Ningbo-Zhoushan, then follows a long corridor south from the China coast, across the equator; at the far end is the port of Wyndham.
Australia adds a 48-hour sea cargo report and biosecurity paperwork for the container. The 5 points below are particular to this lane; each comes with what we do and the paperwork it touches.
What we need to start
Route profile
A southward run towards Oceania, into Australia's November–April cyclone season and, for Australia, the BMSB season from September to April.
Australia wants cargo data 48 hours ahead, clean biosecurity paperwork and a DG notice to the port.

Where this route gets difficult
Listed from loading in Ningbo to import into Australia, each with what we do about it.
Zhejiang MSA's January 2026 battery guide sets a concrete loading test: no half of the container's length may carry more than 60% of the cargo weight, and packages must be braced. On board, deck stowage should be inside fire-fighting coverage and shaded from direct sun, and under-deck stowage in holds with temperature probes.
What Anxin does: We ask for the load plan before stuffing and check the 60% split on the stuffing photos, and we pass the shading and away-from-heat stowage request to the carrier on the booking.
Australia's brown marmorated stink bug measures apply to goods shipped from 1 September to 30 April, judged by the shipped-on-board date on the bill of lading. Chapter 85, which covers batteries, is a target high-risk chapter; goods from China, listed as an emerging risk country, may be picked for random onshore inspection, and if the container is transhipped through a target risk country treatment can become mandatory.
What Anxin does: We ask the carrier to confirm the transhipment port for Wyndham before booking so that the BMSB status is known, and make sure the bill of lading shows the shipped-on-board date.
Australia's biosecurity rules ask the packer of an FCL container for a packing declaration: no straw or soil in the packaging, the ISPM 15 status of any timber, and a statement that the container was cleaned. Battery pallets and crates are usually wood, so the declaration for Wyndham depends on how the goods were packed in Ningbo.
What Anxin does: We check that the pallets are ISPM 15 marked and that the packer's declaration is signed before the container leaves Ningbo.
The Bureau of Meteorology's cyclone season runs from 1 November to 30 April; the Australian region averages 10 tropical cyclones a season, 3-4 of them making landfall. Wyndham is on the northern coastline where cyclones cross, and ports there stop working while one passes.
What Anxin does: For November-April arrivals at Wyndham we allow slack in the delivery plan and pass on port closures and revised arrival times as soon as the carrier issues them.
At Broome, Kimberley Ports Authority wants DG notified 24 hours before entry and grants permission class by class; KPA also oversees Derby and Wyndham. A battery container for Wyndham should be planned on that basis and confirmed with the port.
What Anxin does: We give the carrier's agent full DG details early, so the permission for Wyndham can be sought well before arrival.

Documents & compliance
Anxin reviews documents supplied by the shipper, manufacturer and importer; it does not issue test reports, safety data sheets or import certificates.

Most delays on this route start with a document that exists but does not match: a UN number, a model name or a package count that differs between the Ningbo filings, the carrier booking and the Australia import file. We check the three against each other before the booking is confirmed.
Carriers we book with
Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.
Risk & mitigation
| Risk | Where | Mitigation | Who acts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Uneven load rejected at the Ningbo packing check | Beilun / Meishan stuffing | Load plan checked before stuffing | Packing site, checked by Anxin |
| Container selected for BMSB inspection or treatment | Australian border, Sep–Apr | Transhipment port and B/L date checked | Importer, supported by Anxin |
| Container sent for biosecurity inspection over packing paperwork | Australian port of discharge | Signed packing declaration; ISPM 15 timber | Packer, checked by Anxin |
Questions
At least 48 hours before the ship reaches its first Australian port, for voyages of 48 hours or more such as those from China.
Chapter 85 goods are target high-risk goods. China is an emerging risk country, so goods shipped from China between 1 September and 30 April may be selected for random inspection; transhipment through a target risk country can make treatment mandatory.
Zhejiang MSA's 2026 guide says the cargo weight in any half of the container's length should not exceed 60% of the total, with every package braced and checked for damage and marks.
