South & Southeast Asia · sea freight from Lianyungang
Lianyungang to Da Nang
Yellow Sea · East China Sea · Taiwan Strait · South China Sea
This route runs from northern Jiangsu through Lianyungang on the Yellow Sea, then follows the monsoon-driven seas of Southeast Asia; at the far end is the port of Da Nang.
In Vietnam the DG declaration reaches customs before the ship arrives and consumer batteries need QCVN 101 conformity. The 5 points below are particular to this lane; each comes with what we do and the paperwork it touches.
What we need to start
Route profile
Jiangsu's Yellow Sea port, with a simplified document list for 'new three' cargo since 2024 and its own guide for energy-storage units on break-bulk ships.
DG data to customs 12 hours before arrival, QCVN 101 conformity for consumer batteries, EPR for importers, and a storm season along the coast.

Where this route gets difficult
Listed from loading in Lianyungang to import into Vietnam, each with what we do about it.
Lianyungang MSA's Notice No. 1 of 2024 cut the materials for 'new three' cargo to four on the cargo side: the safe-carriage declaration, the inspector-signed packing certificate, the packaging inspection certificate where packaged, and a power of attorney. Fewer papers means each one carries more weight; the packing certificate still has to be signed by a certified inspector after supervised stuffing.
What Anxin does: We prepare the four cargo-side documents together and check that the packing certificate, the packaging certificate and the declaration describe the same UN numbers and quantities.
Lianyungang MSA's June 2025 guide for ESS on break-bulk ships treats ESS cabinets as UN3480 and ESS containers as UN3536, recommends a remaining charge of 20–50%, and requires converters and monitoring to be powered off, series and parallel circuits disconnected, packages evenly spread with a low centre of gravity, and a safety meeting before the ship arrives.
What Anxin does: For ESS units we confirm the UN number the unit ships under, get the state of charge and isolation steps in writing from the manufacturer, and join the pre-arrival safety meeting with the stowage details.
Western North Pacific typhoons average 25.1 a year (JMA, 1991-2020), with August and September the busiest months. For Da Nang the risk is less the sea passage than a port closure in Lianyungang or on arrival, which moves the box and its DG declaration to a later ship.
What Anxin does: In typhoon months we check the carrier's DG acceptance for the next two vessels as well, so a rolled container can be refiled quickly rather than rebooked from scratch.
Decree 05/2025 keeps batteries under Vietnam's extended producer responsibility rules. Importers, like producers, must either recycle the batteries they place on the market or pay into the Vietnam Environment Protection Fund.
What Anxin does: At quotation we remind the importer at Da Nang that the EPR obligation follows the goods, so it can register the volumes it imports.
Da Nang Port names August to November as its peak storm season, and it closed from 5 to 8 November 2025 for Typhoon Kalmaegi. Arrivals at Da Nang in those months should allow for a closure of several days.
What Anxin does: For autumn sailings to Da Nang we warn the consignee about possible closures and ask it to have its entry lodged early.

Documents & compliance
These documents come from the shipper, the manufacturer and the importer. Anxin checks them against each other; it does not issue test reports, safety data sheets or import certificates.

We line up UN numbers, model names and package counts across the Lianyungang filings, the booking with the carrier and the documents for Vietnam before the booking is confirmed, so that a mismatch is fixed at origin rather than discovered at Da Nang.
Carriers we book with
Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.
Risk & mitigation
| Risk | Where | Mitigation | Who acts |
|---|---|---|---|
| One of the four documents inconsistent with the others | Lianyungang MSA filing | Cross-check before submission | Anxin with the declarant |
| ESS unit not isolated or poorly distributed in a break-bulk hold | Lianyungang, break-bulk loading | Manufacturer's written isolation steps; safety meeting | Manufacturer / ship, coordinated by Anxin |
| Typhoon closes a port; the box moves to a later vessel | Southeast Asian ports, Jul-Oct | Back-up vessel with DG acceptance; prompt refiling | Anxin with the carrier |
Questions
Producers and importers, who must recycle or contribute to the Vietnam Environment Protection Fund under Decree 05/2025.
It waits or moves to the next vessel. The dangerous goods declaration has to be refiled for that vessel, which is why we check DG acceptance for a back-up sailing in typhoon months.
Its June 2025 break-bulk ESS guide recommends 20–50% remaining charge, with converters and monitoring off and circuits disconnected.
