Lianyungang to Chan May
Yellow Sea · East China Sea · Taiwan Strait · South China Sea
This route runs from northern Jiangsu through Lianyungang on the Yellow Sea, then follows a Southeast Asian sea passage with no canal on the way; at the far end is the port of Chan May.
In Vietnam the DG declaration reaches customs before the ship arrives and consumer batteries need QCVN 101 conformity. This page sets out 6 points specific to this route, how Anxin handles each one and which documents to prepare.
What we need to start
Route profile
Jiangsu's Yellow Sea port, with a simplified document list for 'new three' cargo since 2024 and its own guide for energy-storage units on break-bulk ships.
A Southeast Asian sea route with no canal: typhoons from summer to autumn, the north-east monsoon from November to March, and relays through Singapore or other hubs for smaller ports.

Where this route gets difficult
They run from the Lianyungang terminal through the voyage to Chan May and the Vietnam import file.
Lianyungang MSA's Notice No. 1 of 2024 cut the materials for 'new three' cargo to four on the cargo side: the safe-carriage declaration, the inspector-signed packing certificate, the packaging inspection certificate where packaged, and a power of attorney. Fewer papers means each one carries more weight; the packing certificate still has to be signed by a certified inspector after supervised stuffing.
What Anxin does: We prepare the four cargo-side documents together and check that the packing certificate, the packaging certificate and the declaration describe the same UN numbers and quantities.
The China Meteorological Administration describes sea fog as a major marine hazard in the Yellow and Bohai Seas, mainly from April to July. At Lianyungang, as at Qingdao, fog can hold vessels at anchor, and a changed vessel means amended DG filings.
What Anxin does: In fog season we keep slack between stuffing and the DG cut-off and have the filing data ready to amend.
Routes from northern China to Chan May go through the Taiwan Strait, whose funnel effect makes winds 1-2 Beaufort levels stronger than outside. In winter and spring the north-east monsoon brings force 7 or more on about two-thirds of days, which is hard on a load that has not been braced.
What Anxin does: We ask for blocking and bracing photos before the container is closed in Lianyungang, checked against the CINS stuffing guidance for lithium batteries.
Da Nang Port names August to November as its peak storm season, and it closed from 5 to 8 November 2025 for Typhoon Kalmaegi. Arrivals at Chan May in those months should allow for a closure of several days.
What Anxin does: For autumn sailings to Chan May we warn the consignee about possible closures and ask it to have its entry lodged early.
Lithium batteries for mobile phones, tablets and laptops fall under Vietnam's QCVN 101. Before sale, the importer must register them for state quality inspection, test them and declare conformity, so a consignment for Chan May can wait in the port until that is done.
What Anxin does: For consumer batteries we ask the importer to start the QCVN 101 registration before the goods leave Lianyungang, using test data from the manufacturer.
Vietnam now wants the manifest, B/L data and DG declaration 12 hours before arrival for short voyages and 24 hours for longer ones (Decree 08/2015 as amended in 2025). For a container from Lianyungang to Chan May, errors found after that point hold the box.
What Anxin does: We send the carrier the full DG description with the booking, so the Vietnamese filing can go in on time without corrections.

Documents & compliance
Anxin reviews documents supplied by the shipper, manufacturer and importer; it does not issue test reports, safety data sheets or import certificates.

Most delays on this route start with a document that exists but does not match: a UN number, a model name or a package count that differs between the Lianyungang filings, the carrier booking and the Vietnam import file. We check the three against each other before the booking is confirmed.
Carriers we book with
Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.
Risk & mitigation
| Risk | Where | Mitigation | Who acts |
|---|---|---|---|
| One of the four documents inconsistent with the others | Lianyungang MSA filing | Cross-check before submission | Anxin with the declarant |
| Container held for a late or corrected DG declaration | Vietnamese port of discharge | DG data final at booking | Carrier, with data from Anxin |
Questions
They fall under QCVN 101: quality-inspection registration, testing and a declaration of conformity before sale.
It waits or moves to the next vessel. The dangerous goods declaration has to be refiled for that vessel, which is why we check DG acceptance for a back-up sailing in typhoon months.
Under its Notice No. 1 of 2024, the cargo side submits the DG safe-carriage declaration, the inspector-signed packing certificate, the packaging inspection certificate where the goods are packaged, and a power of attorney.
