Lithium batteries for El Puerto de Santa María go through Lianyungang port. On the way they face a Suez corridor that Mediterranean services are using again more than any other Asia–Europe lane, and they arrive at the port of El Puerto de Santa María.

Spain wants the producer on the RII-PYA register, with its number on the invoice. The 6 points below are particular to this lane; each comes with what we do and the paperwork it touches.

What we need to start

  • Break-bulk ESS guide
  • Fog season Apr–Jul
  • RII-PYA number
  • Spanish-language safety information
  • Consignee EORI

Route profile

What sets Lianyungang → El Puerto de Santa María apart

Origin port

Lianyungang

Jiangsu's Yellow Sea port, with a simplified document list for 'new three' cargo since 2024 and its own guide for energy-storage units on break-bulk ships.

Import country

Spain

Spain's RII-PYA number on invoices, quarterly data that counts batteries inside equipment, EU importer duties and ADR for the road leg.

Where this route gets difficult

6 points to plan for on the Lianyungang → El Puerto de Santa María route

Loading port first, then the sea leg, then El Puerto de Santa María and the Spain market.

  1. Origin port

    Fog season at Lianyungang

Between April and July sea fog is a major marine hazard in the Yellow and Bohai Seas, the China Meteorological Administration says. Lianyungang, like Qingdao, can see vessels held at anchor by fog, and moving a box to another vessel means amending its DG filings.

What Anxin does: In fog season we keep slack between stuffing and the DG cut-off and have the filing data ready to amend.

  2. Origin port

Four cargo-side documents at Lianyungang, each checked

Under Lianyungang MSA's Notice No. 1 of 2024 the cargo side of a 'new three' filing needs four items: safe-carriage declaration, packing certificate signed by an inspector, packaging inspection certificate where the goods are packaged, and a power of attorney. A shorter list puts more weight on each paper, and the packing certificate still requires a certified inspector after supervised stuffing.

What Anxin does: We prepare the four cargo-side documents together and check that the packing certificate, the packaging certificate and the declaration describe the same UN numbers and quantities.

  3. Sea corridor

    Suez itself is working normally

The JMIC's September 2026 update rated the northern Red Sea and Suez Canal MODERATE, with the canal operating in both directions and container lines returning selectively, and the Eastern Mediterranean LOW. The risk on this corridor is concentrated at the southern entrance of the Red Sea rather than at the canal.

What Anxin does: We check before each booking whether the service has changed routing since the last quote.

  4. Import country

The ICS2 entry summary is due before loading in Lianyungang

For El Puerto de Santa María, EU security pre-filing happens at the other end of the voyage: the ICS2 entry summary must reach the system 24 hours before the container is loaded in Lianyungang. No filing means no loading, and a missing EORI number is enough to reject it.

What Anxin does: We collect the consignee's EORI number, an HS-level goods description and the house-bill parties at booking, and make sure the party filing the ENS has them before the Lianyungang cut-off.

  5. Import country

The importer's name and address on the battery

A battery entering Spain has to identify its importer: name, registered trade name or trade mark, postal address and a contact point belong on the battery itself, or on the packaging or accompanying document when the battery is too small. That text is fixed at the factory, not at El Puerto de Santa María.

What Anxin does: We pass the Spain importer's name and address block to the manufacturer before the goods are packed in China and check carton or battery photos for it before loading.

  6. Import country

Battery label from August 2026, QR code from February 2027

Two marking dates fall into current shipping plans for Spain: the general label from 18 August 2026 and the QR code from 18 February 2027, which for EV, LMT and larger industrial batteries has to open the battery passport.

What Anxin does: Before booking we ask the Spain importer to confirm the battery category and whether the label and QR-code elements are already on the goods, and compare carton photos with that answer.

Documents & compliance

Documents to line up for Lianyungang → El Puerto de Santa María

Test reports, safety data sheets and import certificates come from the shipper, factory and importer, not from Anxin; our part is to review them before booking.

At the Lianyungang end

  • The four cargo-side documents under Lianyungang MSA Notice 2024 No. 1 prepared together and cross-checked
  • Annex V safety documentation confirmed for stationary storage systems
  • Substance declaration covering mercury, cadmium and lead limits
  • Safety data sheet and dangerous goods safe-carriage declaration for the MSA cargo report
  • Customs packaging use-appraisal result for the dangerous goods packaging (with the maker's performance appraisal)

For the carrier and the voyage

  • Routing (Red Sea or Cape) and any war-risk surcharge stated on the booking
  • Consignee EORI and HS-level description to the ENS filer before loading
  • UN 38.3 test summary for every cell and battery type

For the importer in Spain

  • Label and QR-code status against the August 2026 and February 2027 dates
  • Haulier in Spain briefed with UN number, class 9 and tunnel code (E) for the road leg
  • RII-PYA registration number of the Spanish producer

Before you book

Match the details first

We line up UN numbers, model names and package counts across the Lianyungang filings, the booking with the carrier and the documents for Spain before the booking is confirmed, so that a mismatch is fixed at origin rather than discovered at El Puerto de Santa María.

Carriers we book with

Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.

Questions

Questions about shipping from Lianyungang to El Puerto de Santa María

The CE marking on the battery and the manufacturer's EU declaration of conformity, which must be available in the language Spain requires. Both have applied since 18 August 2024.

Often: in September 2026, 57% of Asia–Mediterranean services used the Red Sea routing. Bab el-Mandeb was rated a SUBSTANTIAL threat by the JMIC on 24 September 2026, so we confirm each service's routing before booking.

Under its Notice No. 1 of 2024, the cargo side submits the DG safe-carriage declaration, the inspector-signed packing certificate, the packaging inspection certificate where the goods are packaged, and a power of attorney.
