From Lianyungang to Narvik, cargo moves from northern Jiangsu through Lianyungang on the Yellow Sea, crosses a voyage that may run through Suez as drawn or round the Cape, depending on the service, and is discharged at the port of Narvik.

The Norwegian side runs producer responsibility through approved return companies. The 5 points below are particular to this lane; each comes with what we do and the paperwork it touches.

What we need to start

  • Break-bulk ESS guide
  • Fog season Apr–Jul
  • EU declaration of conformity
  • Return company membership
  • Norwegian-language safety information

Route profile

The Lianyungang → Narvik route in brief

Origin port

Lianyungang

Jiangsu's Yellow Sea port, with a simplified document list for 'new three' cargo since 2024 and its own guide for energy-storage units on break-bulk ships.

Sea corridor

Asia – North & Atlantic Europe

The map shows the Suez corridor, but in September 2026 most Asia–North Europe capacity still sails round the Cape of Good Hope.

Where this route gets difficult

What to watch between Lianyungang and Narvik: 5 points

They run from the Lianyungang terminal through the voyage to Narvik and the Norway import file.

  1. Origin port

Yellow Sea fog from April to July

The China Meteorological Administration describes sea fog as a major marine hazard in the Yellow and Bohai Seas, mainly from April to July. At Lianyungang, as at Qingdao, fog can hold vessels at anchor, and a changed vessel means amended DG filings.

What Anxin does: In fog season we keep slack between stuffing and the DG cut-off and have the filing data ready to amend.

  2. Sea corridor

Suez on the map, the Cape on most sailings

The corridor on this page is drawn through Bab-el-Mandeb and the Suez Canal. In practice, Sea-Intelligence data for September 2026 put Red Sea routing on the Asia–Europe head-haul at 13–25%: 27% for services to North Europe and 57% for Mediterranean services. Which service calls at Narvik decides whether the box goes through Suez or round the Cape of Good Hope, and the two routings differ in length, in the waters crossed and in the ports where a box might be transhipped.

What Anxin does: We ask the carrier to state the routing and any transhipment port on the booking confirmation, and we quote the two routings separately when both are on offer rather than mixing them.

  3. Import country

    Marking under Norway's product regulation

While Norway waits for the EU rules, batteries are marked under the Norwegian product regulation: the crossed-out waste container, Hg, Cd or Pb symbols above set thresholds, and capacity marking for certain battery types. Under the waste regulation the importer must also be a member of an approved battery return company.

What Anxin does: We compare carton and battery photos against the Norwegian marking list before loading and ask the importer to confirm its return company.

  4. Import country

    Norwegian road transport follows ADR

Under Norway's regulation on land transport of dangerous goods, ADR applies as Norwegian law on the road, including domestic journeys. A UN 3480 load leaving Narvik therefore moves as class 9, transport category 2, with tunnel restriction code (E), which the haulier has to reflect in route planning.

What Anxin does: We give the Norwegian haulier the UN number, class and package details from the sea dangerous goods declaration so the road paperwork from Narvik matches the container file.

  5. Import country

Hazardous cargo report in SafeSeaNet Norway

Every vessel carrying hazardous or noxious cargo must report it in SafeSeaNet Norway at least 24 hours before arriving at a Norwegian port, with the cargo correctly categorised and a manifest or cargo plan showing where the dangerous goods are stowed. The data comes from the shipper's declaration, so an error made in Lianyungang travels all the way to Narvik.

What Anxin does: We check that the UN number, class and package count on our dangerous goods declaration match the booking, so the carrier's SafeSeaNet report for Narvik is built on consistent data.

Documents & compliance

Documents to line up for Lianyungang → Narvik

Test reports, safety data sheets and import certificates come from the shipper, factory and importer, not from Anxin; our part is to review them before booking.

In Lianyungang, before the box is loaded

  • Customs packaging use-appraisal result for the dangerous goods packaging (with the maker's performance appraisal)
  • Container packing certificate signed by a certified packing inspector after supervised stuffing
  • Transport-condition classification report where applicable
  • Load plan showing even weight distribution (no more than 60% of the cargo weight in either half of the container length)
  • Waste container symbol and capacity marking checked against Norwegian rules

For the carrier and the voyage

  • Routing (Suez or Cape of Good Hope) and any transhipment port stated on the booking confirmation
  • Dangerous goods data consistent for the carrier's SafeSeaNet Norway report
  • UN 38.3 test summary for every cell and battery type

For the importer in Norway

  • Norwegian haulier briefed with UN 3480 class 9 and tunnel code (E)
  • House consignment data for Digitoll and the TVINN declarant confirmed before arrival
  • Return company (producer responsibility) membership of the Norwegian importer

One consistent file

A document that is present but inconsistent holds a booking as surely as a missing one: the UN number, model name or carton count reads differently in the Lianyungang export filings, the carrier booking and the Norway import papers. We compare all three before confirming space.

Carriers we book with

Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.

Questions

Lianyungang → Narvik: questions we are asked

Since 15 September 2026 vessel and cargo information must be filed digitally at least 24 hours before the first Norwegian call, and the importer's TVINN declaration is due by arrival at the discharge port.

It depends on the service. In September 2026 most Asia–North Europe capacity still sailed round the Cape of Good Hope; Sea-Intelligence put the Red Sea share for North Europe vessels at 27%. We ask the carrier to confirm the routing on the booking and quote each routing separately.

Its June 2025 break-bulk ESS guide recommends 20–50% remaining charge, with converters and monitoring off and circuits disconnected.
