Lianyungang to Vizhinjam
Yellow Sea · East China Sea · Taiwan Strait · South China Sea · Malacca Strait · Andaman Sea · Indian Ocean
This route runs through Lianyungang port, then follows the Malacca Strait and then the Indian Ocean; at the far end is the port of Vizhinjam.
In India the BIS R-number must match the manufacturer, model and factory on crsbis.in. The 6 points below are particular to this lane; each comes with what we do and the paperwork it touches.
What we need to start
Route profile
Jiangsu's Yellow Sea port, with a simplified document list for 'new three' cargo since 2024 and its own guide for energy-storage units on break-bulk ships.
An Indian Ocean route: rough south-west monsoon seas from June to September and cyclone windows in April-May and October-December.

Where this route gets difficult
Loading port first, then the sea leg, then Vizhinjam and the India market.
For energy storage shipped on break-bulk vessels, Lianyungang MSA's June 2025 guide classes ESS cabinets as UN3480 and ESS containers as UN3536, recommends 20–50% remaining charge, and requires converters and monitoring switched off, series and parallel circuits disconnected, packages spread evenly with a low centre of gravity, and a safety meeting before the ship arrives.
What Anxin does: For ESS units we confirm the UN number the unit ships under, get the state of charge and isolation steps in writing from the manufacturer, and join the pre-arrival safety meeting with the stowage details.
Between April and July sea fog is a major marine hazard in the Yellow and Bohai Seas, the China Meteorological Administration says. Lianyungang, like Qingdao, can see vessels held at anchor by fog, and moving a box to another vessel means amending its DG filings.
What Anxin does: In fog season we keep slack between stuffing and the DG cut-off and have the filing data ready to amend.
The India Meteorological Department recognises two cyclone seasons in the North Indian Ocean, April to May and, the main one, October to December. A storm near Vizhinjam closes the port or holds ships at anchor, and the arrival slips accordingly.
What Anxin does: For sailings in those months we plan delivery with slack at Vizhinjam and confirm the carrier's revised arrival before booking onward transport.
Since CBIC Instruction 27/2025, customs officers at Vizhinjam verify the BIS registration on crsbis.in, checking manufacturer, model and factory location. Goods under a deferred or cancelled registration are refused clearance, so an out-of-date certificate is enough to hold the container.
What Anxin does: We compare the model numbers and factory address on the invoice with the registration shown on crsbis.in before the goods leave Lianyungang.
Vizhinjam in Kerala launched full EXIM operations only on 18 August 2026. Services, customs arrangements and DG handling at Vizhinjam are still settling in, so the carrier's acceptance and the local agent should be confirmed before booking.
What Anxin does: We confirm with the carrier that it accepts battery DG for Vizhinjam and who handles the cargo there, before we quote.
Under Section 46 of the Customs Act, the Bill of Entry for Vizhinjam must be filed by the end of the day before arrival, and can go in 30 days ahead. Late filing means charges, so documents from Lianyungang need to reach the broker early.
What Anxin does: We send the importer's broker the invoice, packing list and BIS details as soon as the ship sails from Lianyungang, so the Bill of Entry can be filed early.

Documents & compliance
These documents come from the shipper, the manufacturer and the importer. Anxin checks them against each other; it does not issue test reports, safety data sheets or import certificates.

We line up UN numbers, model names and package counts across the Lianyungang filings, the booking with the carrier and the documents for India before the booking is confirmed, so that a mismatch is fixed at origin rather than discovered at Vizhinjam.
Carriers we book with
Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.
Risk & mitigation
| Risk | Where | Mitigation | Who acts |
|---|---|---|---|
| ESS unit not isolated or poorly distributed in a break-bulk hold | Lianyungang, break-bulk loading | Manufacturer's written isolation steps; safety meeting | Manufacturer / ship, coordinated by Anxin |
| Cyclone closes the port or delays arrival | North Indian Ocean, Apr–May and Oct–Dec | Slack in delivery plan | Carrier / consignee |
| Clearance refused for a registration mismatch | Indian port of discharge | Registration checked before shipment | Manufacturer and importer |
| Late Bill of Entry charges | Indian port of discharge | Documents sent at sailing | Importer's broker |
