Lithium batteries for Mumbai go from northern Jiangsu through Lianyungang on the Yellow Sea. On the way they face the Malacca Strait and then the Indian Ocean, and they arrive at the port of Mumbai.

On the Indian side the importer is an EPR producer and the Bill of Entry is due the day before arrival. Below are 5 route-specific points to plan for, what we do about each, and the documents to have ready before booking.

What we need to start

  • Fog season Apr–Jul
  • Lianyungang export
  • Advance Bill of Entry
  • BIS CRS
  • CPCB EPR

Route profile

What sets Lianyungang → Mumbai apart

Origin port

Lianyungang

Jiangsu's Yellow Sea port, with a simplified document list for 'new three' cargo since 2024 and its own guide for energy-storage units on break-bulk ships.

Where this route gets difficult

Where Lianyungang → Mumbai shipments get held up: 5 points

They run from the Lianyungang terminal through the voyage to Mumbai and the India import file.

  1. Origin port

    Fog season at Lianyungang

Between April and July sea fog is a major marine hazard in the Yellow and Bohai Seas, the China Meteorological Administration says. Lianyungang, like Qingdao, can see vessels held at anchor by fog, and moving a box to another vessel means amending its DG filings.

What Anxin does: In fog season we keep slack between stuffing and the DG cut-off and have the filing data ready to amend.

  2. Origin port

Four cargo-side documents at Lianyungang, each checked

Under Lianyungang MSA's Notice No. 1 of 2024 the cargo side of a 'new three' filing needs four items: safe-carriage declaration, packing certificate signed by an inspector, packaging inspection certificate where the goods are packaged, and a power of attorney. A shorter list puts more weight on each paper, and the packing certificate still requires a certified inspector after supervised stuffing.

What Anxin does: We prepare the four cargo-side documents together and check that the packing certificate, the packaging certificate and the declaration describe the same UN numbers and quantities.

  3. Sea corridor

April-May and October-December: the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea storm windows

The India Meteorological Department recognises two cyclone seasons in the North Indian Ocean, April to May and, the main one, October to December. A storm near Mumbai closes the port or holds ships at anchor, and the arrival slips accordingly.

What Anxin does: For sailings in those months we plan delivery with slack at Mumbai and confirm the carrier's revised arrival before booking onward transport.

  4. Import country

crsbis.in decides: manufacturer, model and factory must match

Indian customs now verify BIS registrations online (CBIC Instruction 27/2025). If the manufacturer, model or factory location on the documents for Mumbai differs from crsbis.in, or the registration is deferred or cancelled, the goods are not cleared.

What Anxin does: We compare the model numbers and factory address on the invoice with the registration shown on crsbis.in before the goods leave Lianyungang.

  5. Import country

Most Mumbai container traffic is not at Mumbai Port

Mumbai Port Authority's Indira Container Terminal ran at about one-third of capacity in July 2026, and the port is seeking to add only clean and non-hazardous cargo there because the terminal is close to the city. Battery DG boxes for Mumbai may in practice be routed through Nhava Sheva, so the discharge terminal should be confirmed.

What Anxin does: We confirm with the carrier which terminal the container for Mumbai will be discharged at and make sure the consignee's broker files for that customs station.

Match the details first

We line up UN numbers, model names and package counts across the Lianyungang filings, the booking with the carrier and the documents for India before the booking is confirmed, so that a mismatch is fixed at origin rather than discovered at Mumbai.

Carriers we book with

Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.
