This route runs through Lianyungang port, then follows a long Europe voyage extended through the Danish straits into the Baltic; at the far end is the port of Nyborg.
Denmark registers battery producers through Dansk Producentansvar. The 6 points below are particular to this lane; each comes with what we do and the paperwork it touches.

Route profile
Jiangsu's Yellow Sea port, with a simplified document list for 'new three' cargo since 2024 and its own guide for energy-storage units on break-bulk ships.
Registration with Dansk Producentansvar via virk.dk, a Danish authorised representative for foreign sellers, and the EU-wide battery and ICS2 duties.

Where this route gets difficult
In the order the cargo meets them: at the loading port, at sea, at Nyborg and at customs in Denmark.
Between April and July sea fog is a major marine hazard in the Yellow and Bohai Seas, the China Meteorological Administration says. Lianyungang, like Qingdao, can see vessels held at anchor by fog, and moving a box to another vessel means amending its DG filings.
What Anxin does: In fog season we keep slack between stuffing and the DG cut-off and have the filing data ready to amend.
For energy storage shipped on break-bulk vessels, Lianyungang MSA's June 2025 guide classes ESS cabinets as UN3480 and ESS containers as UN3536, recommends 20–50% remaining charge, and requires converters and monitoring switched off, series and parallel circuits disconnected, packages spread evenly with a low centre of gravity, and a safety meeting before the ship arrives.
What Anxin does: For ESS units we confirm the UN number the unit ships under, get the state of charge and isolation steps in writing from the manufacturer, and join the pre-arrival safety meeting with the stowage details.
Every box for Nyborg passes the Danish straits, where IMO recommends pilotage on Route T for ships with a draught of 11 m or more and the Danish Maritime Authority reports non-compliant ships to their flag state. If the container is moved to a feeder at a North Sea port, that second vessel must also accept the UN numbers.
What Anxin does: We ask the carrier to name any transhipment port and the feeder operator on the booking and confirm DG acceptance for that leg as well as the mainline.
Annex I of the Battery Regulation caps mercury at 0.0005 %, cadmium at 0.002 % and lead at 0.01 % by weight in portable batteries, and the lead limit has applied since 18 August 2024. Market surveillance in Denmark can ask the importer to show that the goods meet these limits.
What Anxin does: We ask the manufacturer for its substance declaration or test report reference and file it with the shipping documents for the Denmark importer; we do not test batteries.
The Battery Regulation asks the importer to put its own name, registered trade name or trade mark and postal address, with a single contact point, on the battery. Only when the battery's size or nature makes that impossible may the details move to the packaging or an accompanying document, so a Denmark importer's details need to reach the factory before printing.
What Anxin does: We pass the Denmark importer's name and address block to the manufacturer before the goods are packed in China and check carton or battery photos for it before loading.
Importers must make sure batteries come with instructions and safety information in a language end-users in Denmark easily understand, as that Member State decides. Printed inserts and carton text are far easier to change before the goods are packed in China.
What Anxin does: We ask the importer which language Denmark requires and check carton and insert photos against it before loading.

Documents & compliance
Anxin reviews documents supplied by the shipper, manufacturer and importer; it does not issue test reports, safety data sheets or import certificates.

Most delays on this route start with a document that exists but does not match: a UN number, a model name or a package count that differs between the Lianyungang filings, the carrier booking and the Denmark import file. We check the three against each other before the booking is confirmed.
Carriers we book with
Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.
Risk & mitigation
| Risk | Where | Mitigation | Who acts |
|---|---|---|---|
| ESS unit not isolated or poorly distributed in a break-bulk hold | Lianyungang, break-bulk loading | Manufacturer's written isolation steps; safety meeting | Manufacturer / ship, coordinated by Anxin |
| Feeder operator does not accept the UN numbers | North Sea hub | DG acceptance for the feeder leg confirmed | Anxin with the carrier |
| Importer details missing from battery and packaging | Importer in Denmark | Address block sent to the factory before packing | Manufacturer / importer |
Questions
ADR, which the EU applies to domestic journeys through Directive 2008/68/EC. UN 3480 is class 9, transport category 2, with tunnel restriction code (E).
Often, but it depends on the service. The Baltic is reached through the Danish straits, and we ask the carrier to name any transhipment port and confirm DG acceptance for each vessel.
Its June 2025 break-bulk ESS guide recommends 20–50% remaining charge, with converters and monitoring off and circuits disconnected.
