Lithium batteries for Yarmouth go out of Lianyungang, where the MSA simplified 'new three' filings in 2024. On the way they face a Pacific crossing and a Panama Canal transit, and they arrive at the port of Yarmouth.

Canadian clearance depends on eManifest data filed before loading and on the importer's CARM set-up. The 5 points below are particular to this lane; each comes with what we do and the paperwork it touches.

What we need to start

  • Fog season Apr–Jul
  • Lianyungang export
  • CARM account
  • Bilingual labels
  • eManifest cut-off

Where this route gets difficult

5 points to plan for on the Lianyungang → Yarmouth route

Loading port first, then the sea leg, then Yarmouth and the Canada market.

  1. Origin port

A shorter document list at Lianyungang, not a shorter check

Lianyungang MSA's Notice No. 1 of 2024 cut the materials for 'new three' cargo to four on the cargo side: the safe-carriage declaration, the inspector-signed packing certificate, the packaging inspection certificate where packaged, and a power of attorney. Fewer papers means each one carries more weight; the packing certificate still has to be signed by a certified inspector after supervised stuffing.

What Anxin does: We prepare the four cargo-side documents together and check that the packing certificate, the packaging certificate and the declaration describe the same UN numbers and quantities.

  2. Sea corridor

The Pacific leg before Panama in winter

The first half of the voyage crosses the North Pacific, where NOAA has recorded hurricane-force mid-latitude storms from October to April, most often in December.

What Anxin does: For October–April sailings we check blocking and bracing on stuffing photos before sealing.

  3. Import country

A 24-hour number and English or French documents for the Canadian road leg

Canada accepts IMDG marking and documentation for the truck move out of Yarmouth (TDG s. 9.3), provided the shipping document is legible in English or French, gives a 24-hour number and the container is placarded under TDG Part 4 or the IMDG Code.

What Anxin does: We check that the DG declaration is in English, carries a 24-hour number that the consignee has arranged and matches the container's placards before the documents go to the Canadian trucker.

  4. Import country

Incidents must be reported within two days

Under s. 14 of the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act, an importer that learns of a health or safety incident involving a consumer product must tell Health Canada and its supplier within two days, and file a written report within ten. For battery products sold in Canada, the Chinese supplier's test and batch data are needed quickly.

What Anxin does: We make sure the importer has the manufacturer's contact, batch identifiers and test reports on file with each shipment, so an incident report can be made on time.

  5. Import country

English and French on consumer labels

Canada's consumer packaging rules require most mandatory label information on prepackaged consumer products in both English and French. Only the dealer's name and address may be in one language, and imported goods that do not state their origin need 'imported by / importé par' before it.

What Anxin does: For retail-packed goods going to Yarmouth, we check the carton and retail-box artwork for the bilingual text before production is packed.

Match the details first

We line up UN numbers, model names and package counts across the Lianyungang filings, the booking with the carrier and the documents for Canada before the booking is confirmed, so that a mismatch is fixed at origin rather than discovered at Yarmouth.

Carriers we book with

Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.
