Lithium batteries for Iqaluit go out of Lianyungang, where the MSA simplified 'new three' filings in 2024. On the way they face a corridor into Atlantic Canada's waters, and they arrive at the port of Iqaluit.

Canadian clearance depends on eManifest data filed before loading and on the importer's CARM set-up. Below are 5 route-specific points to plan for, what we do about each, and the documents to have ready before booking.

What we need to start

  • Fog season Apr–Jul
  • Lianyungang export
  • CARM account
  • Bilingual labels
  • eManifest cut-off

Route profile

The Lianyungang → Iqaluit route in brief

Sea corridor

Asia – Atlantic Canada, the St Lawrence and the North Atlantic

Atlantic Canada and St Lawrence waters: icebreaking in winter, hurricane-force storms from October to April.

Import country

Canada

Canada checks the carrier's eManifest before loading, the importer's CARM security at release and, for consumer goods, bilingual labels.

Where this route gets difficult

What to watch between Lianyungang and Iqaluit: 5 points

Listed from loading in Lianyungang to import into Canada, each with what we do about it.

  1. Origin port

Energy storage on break-bulk ships: Lianyungang's own rules

Lianyungang MSA's June 2025 guide for ESS on break-bulk ships treats ESS cabinets as UN3480 and ESS containers as UN3536, recommends a remaining charge of 20–50%, and requires converters and monitoring to be powered off, series and parallel circuits disconnected, packages evenly spread with a low centre of gravity, and a safety meeting before the ship arrives.

What Anxin does: For ESS units we confirm the UN number the unit ships under, get the state of charge and isolation steps in writing from the manufacturer, and join the pre-arrival safety meeting with the stowage details.

  2. Sea corridor

    Arctic waters: a June-to-November window

The final leg to Iqaluit runs through Canadian Arctic waters, where the Coast Guard's icebreaking season lasts roughly from June to November and ships report to NORDREG CANADA. Deliveries are planned around that window.

What Anxin does: We confirm the carrier or sealift operator's season and the vessel's ice capability early, and plan battery deliveries for the summer window.

  3. Import country

Release before payment needs security posted in CARM

Since the CARM transition ended on 20 May 2025, importers without financial security posted in the CARM Client Portal no longer get release prior to payment; they pay duties and taxes when the goods are released. For a first shipment through Iqaluit, that decides whether goods can leave the terminal before the duty is settled.

What Anxin does: At quotation we ask the Canada importer whether its CARM account has security posted for release prior to payment, so the broker's release plan is known before the ship arrives.

  4. Import country

English and French on consumer labels

Canada's consumer packaging rules require most mandatory label information on prepackaged consumer products in both English and French. Only the dealer's name and address may be in one language, and imported goods that do not state their origin need 'imported by / importé par' before it.

What Anxin does: For retail-packed goods going to Iqaluit, we check the carton and retail-box artwork for the bilingual text before production is packed.

  5. Import country

A late eManifest correction restarts the 24-hour clock

Canada's advance commercial information rules want container data from the carrier 24 hours before loading abroad. Change the data electronically before the ship sails and the 24 hours run again from the CBSA's acknowledgement, which is how a correction made in Lianyungang can cost a container its sailing.

What Anxin does: We send the carrier the final cargo description, UN number, weights and consignee details before the cut-off in Lianyungang and avoid amendments after the filing.

Documents & compliance

Documents to line up for Lianyungang → Iqaluit

These documents come from the shipper, the manufacturer and the importer. Anxin checks them against each other; it does not issue test reports, safety data sheets or import certificates.

In Lianyungang, before the box is loaded

  • For ESS: UN3480 or UN3536 confirmed, state of charge and circuit isolation stated in writing
  • Bilingual (English/French) retail labelling checked on artwork
  • Safety data sheet and dangerous goods safe-carriage declaration for the MSA cargo report
  • Customs packaging use-appraisal result for the dangerous goods packaging (with the maker's performance appraisal)
  • Container packing certificate signed by a certified packing inspector after supervised stuffing

For the shipping line

  • Final cargo data with the carrier before the eManifest cut-off; no amendments after filing
  • Dangerous goods declaration with UN number (3480 / 3481 / 3090 / 3091), proper shipping name and packing instruction (P903, or P908/P911 for damaged)
  • Lithium battery mark (SP188 cargo) or class 9 labels and placards

For the importer in Canada

  • Importer's CARM account and release-prior-to-payment security confirmed
  • English DG documents with a 24-hour number for the Canadian road leg

Before you book

One consistent file

A document that is present but inconsistent holds a booking as surely as a missing one: the UN number, model name or carton count reads differently in the Lianyungang export filings, the carrier booking and the Canada import papers. We compare all three before confirming space.

Carriers we book with

Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.

Questions

Questions about shipping from Lianyungang to Iqaluit

At least 24 hours before loading in China. If the data are amended electronically before the ship sails, the 24 hours restart from the CBSA's acknowledgement.
