From Lianyungang to Burgas, cargo moves out of Lianyungang, crosses a Suez, Aegean and Bosporus passage into the Black Sea, and is discharged at the port of Burgas.

The Bulgaria side follows the EU battery and customs pre-filing rules. This page sets out 5 points specific to this route, how Anxin handles each one and which documents to prepare.

What we need to start

Route profile

How Lianyungang → Burgas differs from other lanes

Origin port

Lianyungang

Jiangsu's Yellow Sea port, with a simplified document list for 'new three' cargo since 2024 and its own guide for energy-storage units on break-bulk ships.

Sea corridor

Asia – Black Sea via Suez and the Turkish Straits

Suez, the Aegean and the Turkish Straits, with a 24-hour DG sailing plan before the Bosporus and, since September 2026, almost the whole Black Sea on the war-risk list.

Where this route gets difficult

5 points to plan for on the Lianyungang → Burgas route

They run from the Lianyungang terminal through the voyage to Burgas and the Bulgaria import file.

  1. Origin port

Energy storage on break-bulk ships: Lianyungang's own rules

Lianyungang MSA's June 2025 guide for ESS on break-bulk ships treats ESS cabinets as UN3480 and ESS containers as UN3536, recommends a remaining charge of 20–50%, and requires converters and monitoring to be powered off, series and parallel circuits disconnected, packages evenly spread with a low centre of gravity, and a safety meeting before the ship arrives.

What Anxin does: For ESS units we confirm the UN number the unit ships under, get the state of charge and isolation steps in writing from the manufacturer, and join the pre-arrival safety meeting with the stowage details.

  2. Sea corridor

Almost the whole Black Sea is now a war-risk listed area

On 16 September 2026 the Joint War Committee widened its Black Sea listed area to almost the entire sea, leaving out only Turkish, Georgian, Bulgarian and Romanian territorial waters. Ships entering must notify their war-risk underwriters, who may charge additional premiums per voyage, and carriers can pass that on.

What Anxin does: We ask the carrier for any war-risk surcharge to Burgas in writing before booking and recheck it if the sailing moves.

  3. Import country

The importer's name and address on the battery

The Battery Regulation asks the importer to put its own name, registered trade name or trade mark and postal address, with a single contact point, on the battery. Only when the battery's size or nature makes that impossible may the details move to the packaging or an accompanying document, so a Bulgaria importer's details need to reach the factory before printing.

What Anxin does: We pass the Bulgaria importer's name and address block to the manufacturer before the goods are packed in China and check carton or battery photos for it before loading.

  4. Import country

Safety information in a language Bulgaria accepts

An importer has to ensure that batteries are accompanied by instructions and safety information in a language that end-users in Bulgaria can easily understand, as the Member State determines. Inserts and carton print are much simpler to adjust before packing in China.

What Anxin does: We ask the importer which language Bulgaria requires and check carton and insert photos against it before loading.

  5. Import country

Supply-chain due diligence moved to August 2027

The Battery Regulation's due diligence obligations on cobalt, lithium, nickel and natural graphite were postponed by Regulation (EU) 2025/1561 and now apply from 18 August 2027, with Commission guidelines due by 26 July 2026. Buyers in Bulgaria are already asking suppliers for the supply-chain data they will need.

What Anxin does: We pass the Bulgaria buyer's due diligence questions to the manufacturer and keep their answers with the shipment file; the policy itself remains the producer's responsibility.

Before you book

One consistent file

A document that is present but inconsistent holds a booking as surely as a missing one: the UN number, model name or carton count reads differently in the Lianyungang export filings, the carrier booking and the Bulgaria import papers. We compare all three before confirming space.

Carriers we book with

Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.
