This route runs out of Nansha, at the mouth of the Pearl River, then follows the Indian Ocean monsoon corridor; at the far end is the port of Hambantota.

In Sri Lanka declarations go online from 1 October 2026 and classification decides SLSI inspection. The 5 points below are particular to this lane; each comes with what we do and the paperwork it touches.

What we need to start

  • Typhoon season Jun–Oct
  • Nansha export
  • SLSI scope
  • ASYHUB manifest
  • Paperless CusDec

Route profile

The Guangzhou → Hambantota route in brief

Origin port

Guangzhou (Nansha)

Pearl River Delta battery cargo through Nansha, where a September 2026 agreement lets Dongguan-inspected containers load without a second MSA check, and where typhoon season runs June to October.

Import country

Sri Lanka

Manifests through ASYHUB, digitally signed declarations from October 2026, and HS classification that decides whether SLSI inspection applies.

Where this route gets difficult

5 pain points from Guangzhou to Hambantota

Loading port first, then the sea leg, then Hambantota and the Sri Lanka market.

  1. Origin port

Packaging certificate data now shared in Dongguan

Dongguan Customs and Dongguan MSA began sharing dangerous-goods packaging certificate data in September 2026, which they called a first in China, and agreed joint action on concealed and false declarations; Huangpu Customs runs a joint 'lithium batteries going overseas' service against misdeclaration as well. A mismatch between packaging certificate and MSA filing is visible to both.

What Anxin does: We check that the UN number, packaging code and quantities on the packaging certificate are exactly those on the MSA cargo report before either is submitted.

  2. Origin port

    One-box inspection now reaches Nansha

Since 22 September 2026 Guangzhou MSA accepts Dongguan MSA's factory inspection for boxes loading at Nansha and re-inspects only when necessary. The first container was stuffed in Dongguan that day and left Nansha for Singapore on 24 September. Because the arrangement is new at Nansha, the factory record needs to be correct the first time.

What Anxin does: We ask at booking whether your Dongguan factory can use the Nansha one-box arrangement and make sure the stuffing photos, packing certificate and DG declaration match, because a mismatch is the 'necessary' case that brings the second inspection back.

  3. Sea corridor

June to September: south-west monsoon seas

From June to September the south-west monsoon brings rough seas to the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal. A container heading for Hambantota in those months meets heavy rolling, which loosens a poorly braced load.

What Anxin does: In monsoon months we check blocking and bracing strictly on stuffing photos before sealing.

  4. Import country

Release at Hambantota follows the ASYCUDA e-release

Hambantota International Port handles containers and releases cargo after the Sri Lanka Customs e-release in ASYCUDA. For a battery container at Hambantota, the consignee's collection plan depends on that release.

What Anxin does: We ask the consignee to book collection from Hambantota once the e-release is in view, and pass it the DG details for the trucker.

  5. Import country

Classification decides whether SLSI inspection applies

SLSI's compulsory inspection list covers primary cells (HS 8506.10 and 8506.80) and lead-acid starter batteries, but not lithium-ion batteries under 8507.60. The HS code on the documents for Hambantota therefore decides whether an SLSI inspection is needed, especially for mixed shipments.

What Anxin does: We check the HS codes on the invoice with the importer, and flag any primary cells in the shipment that would bring SLSI inspection.

Documents & compliance

Documents to line up for Guangzhou → Hambantota

Anxin reviews documents supplied by the shipper, manufacturer and importer; it does not issue test reports, safety data sheets or import certificates.

At the Guangzhou end

  • Packaging certificate and MSA cargo report cross-checked line by line (UN number, packaging code, quantity)
  • Container packing certificate signed by a certified packing inspector after supervised stuffing
  • Transport-condition classification report where applicable
  • Load plan showing even weight distribution (no more than 60% of the cargo weight in either half of the container length)
  • Safety data sheet and dangerous goods safe-carriage declaration for the MSA cargo report

For the carrier and the voyage

  • Carrier's revised arrival reconfirmed in the cyclone season before booking onward transport
  • Lithium battery mark (SP188 cargo) or class 9 labels and placards
  • Condition statement: new, used, damaged/defective (SP376) or for recycling (SP377)

For import into Sri Lanka

Before you book

One consistent file

A document that is present but inconsistent holds a booking as surely as a missing one: the UN number, model name or carton count reads differently in the Guangzhou export filings, the carrier booking and the Sri Lanka import papers. We compare all three before confirming space.

Carriers we book with

Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.

Questions

Questions about shipping from Guangzhou to Hambantota

Through ASYHUB, which Sri Lanka Customs has required since 7 May 2025.

The India Meteorological Department describes two North Indian Ocean seasons, April–May and October–December, the latter being the main one.

Both now have a one-box arrangement with Dongguan MSA: Yantian since May 2026 and Nansha since 22 September 2026, so a container inspected at the factory need not be reopened at the terminal unless necessary. The choice then comes down to the carrier's service to your destination and the cut-offs; we compare both when you book.
