This route runs out of Nansha, at the mouth of the Pearl River, then follows a lane whose routing, Suez or Cape of Good Hope, is decided service by service; at the far end is the port of Trondheim.

The Norwegian side runs producer responsibility through approved return companies. Below are 5 route-specific points to plan for, what we do about each, and the documents to have ready before booking.

What we need to start

  • Nansha export
  • Dongguan–Nansha one-box
  • SafeSeaNet Norway hazardous cargo report
  • Consignee EORI
  • EU declaration of conformity

Route profile

What sets Guangzhou → Trondheim apart

Sea corridor

Asia – North & Atlantic Europe

The map shows the Suez corridor, but in September 2026 most Asia–North Europe capacity still sails round the Cape of Good Hope.

Import country

Where this route gets difficult

What to watch between Guangzhou and Trondheim: 5 points

In the order the cargo meets them: at the loading port, at sea, at Trondheim and at customs in Norway.

  1. Origin port

Customs and MSA now compare packaging certificates

In September 2026 Dongguan Customs and Dongguan MSA started sharing dangerous-goods packaging certificate data, described as a first in China, together with joint action against concealed and false declarations; Huangpu Customs also runs a joint 'lithium batteries going overseas' service against misdeclaration. A packaging certificate that does not match the MSA filing is now visible to both agencies.

What Anxin does: We check that the UN number, packaging code and quantities on the packaging certificate are exactly those on the MSA cargo report before either is submitted.

  2. Origin port

Nansha MSA's state-of-charge advice for energy storage

At a July 2024 meeting on energy-storage carriage, Nansha MSA recommended shipping ESS batteries at a state of charge of around 25% and preventing accidental activation. It is a recommendation rather than a fixed rule, but it is the figure the local authority has put on record.

What Anxin does: For ESS cargo leaving Nansha we ask the manufacturer to state the shipping state of charge and the anti-activation measures in writing, and put both in the documents the carrier sees.

  3. Sea corridor

Drawn via Suez, sailed mostly via the Cape

The map on this page shows the corridor through Bab-el-Mandeb and Suez, but Sea-Intelligence figures for September 2026 put Red Sea routing on the Asia–Europe head-haul at 13–25%, with 27% for North Europe services and 57% for the Mediterranean. The service that calls at Trondheim decides between Suez and the Cape of Good Hope, and with it the distance, the waters and the possible transhipment ports.

What Anxin does: We ask the carrier to state the routing and any transhipment port on the booking confirmation, and we quote the two routings separately when both are on offer rather than mixing them.

  4. Import country

Norway is inside the EU customs security area

Since 1 July 2009 an agreement has placed Norway in the EU customs security area, so cargo for Trondheim is pre-notified in ICS2 exactly as for EU ports, and the filer needs an EORI number. Norway's non-EU status does not remove the filing before loading in Guangzhou.

What Anxin does: We collect the Norwegian consignee's details and an HS-level description at booking and make sure the ENS filer has them before the Guangzhou cut-off.

  5. Import country

Hazardous cargo report in SafeSeaNet Norway

Every vessel carrying hazardous or noxious cargo must report it in SafeSeaNet Norway at least 24 hours before arriving at a Norwegian port, with the cargo correctly categorised and a manifest or cargo plan showing where the dangerous goods are stowed. The data comes from the shipper's declaration, so an error made in Guangzhou travels all the way to Trondheim.

What Anxin does: We check that the UN number, class and package count on our dangerous goods declaration match the booking, so the carrier's SafeSeaNet report for Trondheim is built on consistent data.

Documents & compliance

Documents to line up for Guangzhou → Trondheim

These documents come from the shipper, the manufacturer and the importer. Anxin checks them against each other; it does not issue test reports, safety data sheets or import certificates.

At the Guangzhou end

  • Packaging certificate and MSA cargo report cross-checked line by line (UN number, packaging code, quantity)
  • For ESS: written shipping state of charge and anti-activation measures from the manufacturer
  • Safety data sheet and dangerous goods safe-carriage declaration for the MSA cargo report
  • Customs packaging use-appraisal result for the dangerous goods packaging (with the maker's performance appraisal)
  • Container packing certificate signed by a certified packing inspector after supervised stuffing

For the carrier and the voyage

  • Routing (Suez or Cape of Good Hope) and any transhipment port stated on the booking confirmation
  • Dangerous goods data consistent for the carrier's SafeSeaNet Norway report
  • UN 38.3 test summary for every cell and battery type

For the importer in Norway

  • Norwegian haulier briefed with UN 3480 class 9 and tunnel code (E)
  • House consignment data for Digitoll and the TVINN declarant confirmed before arrival

One consistent file

A document that is present but inconsistent holds a booking as surely as a missing one: the UN number, model name or carton count reads differently in the Guangzhou export filings, the carrier booking and the Norway import papers. We compare all three before confirming space.

Carriers we book with

Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.

Questions

Common questions on the Guangzhou → Trondheim route

Since 15 September 2026 vessel and cargo information must be filed digitally at least 24 hours before the first Norwegian call, and the importer's TVINN declaration is due by arrival at the discharge port.

It depends on the service. In September 2026 most Asia–North Europe capacity still sailed round the Cape of Good Hope; Sea-Intelligence put the Red Sea share for North Europe vessels at 27%. We ask the carrier to confirm the routing on the booking and quote each routing separately.

Nansha MSA has recommended around 25% for ESS batteries and measures against accidental activation. Treat it as the local authority's recommendation; the carrier's own acceptance conditions also apply.
