Lithium batteries for Damietta go through Guangzhou's Nansha terminals, which since September 2026 accept Dongguan-inspected battery boxes without a second check. On the way they face a Bab el-Mandeb and Suez passage into the Mediterranean, and they arrive at the port of Damietta.

On the Egyptian side the ACI system needs the exporter on CargoX and the documents uploaded before the ship arrives. This page sets out 5 points specific to this route, how Anxin handles each one and which documents to prepare.

What we need to start

  • Typhoon season Jun–Oct
  • Nansha export
  • Importers Register entry (GOEIC)
  • ACID number on the B/L
  • Exporter verified on CargoX

Route profile

What sets Guangzhou → Damietta apart

Origin port

Guangzhou (Nansha)

Pearl River Delta battery cargo through Nansha, where a September 2026 agreement lets Dongguan-inspected containers load without a second MSA check, and where typhoon season runs June to October.

Import country

Egypt

Egypt's ACI system starts in China: no ACID on the bill of lading means the box is not unloaded.

Where this route gets difficult

What to watch between Guangzhou and Damietta: 5 points

Loading port first, then the sea leg, then Damietta and the Egypt market.

  1. Origin port

Typhoon weeks at the Pearl River mouth

The Hong Kong Observatory puts the region's tropical cyclone season from June to October, busiest July to September. Nansha sits at the mouth of the Pearl River; a closed gate or a changed vessel means the DG filings and the packing certificate have to follow the box to a new sailing.

What Anxin does: From June to October we leave slack between stuffing and the DG cut-off at Nansha and refile quickly if the vessel changes.

  2. Origin port

Packaging certificate data now shared in Dongguan

Dongguan Customs and Dongguan MSA began sharing dangerous-goods packaging certificate data in September 2026, which they called a first in China, and agreed joint action on concealed and false declarations; Huangpu Customs runs a joint 'lithium batteries going overseas' service against misdeclaration as well. A mismatch between packaging certificate and MSA filing is visible to both.

What Anxin does: We check that the UN number, packaging code and quantities on the packaging certificate are exactly those on the MSA cargo report before either is submitted.

  3. Sea corridor

Mediterranean services are back in the Red Sea more than others

Sea-Intelligence data for September 2026 show 57% of Asia–Mediterranean services routed via the Red Sea, against 27% for North Europe. For Damietta the Suez routing is therefore the likely one, and it runs through Bab el-Mandeb, which the JMIC rated SUBSTANTIAL on 24 September 2026: the Houthis describe their blockade as selective, and they now hold Perim Island in the channel.

What Anxin does: We ask the carrier which routing its service to Damietta uses and name it on the quote, together with any war-risk or emergency surcharge.

  4. Import country

The ACID number has to exist before sailing

For Damietta, the 19-digit ACID number is generated by the Egyptian importer on Nafeza before departure and printed on the bill of lading and every other shipping document. Egyptian Customs does not let cargo without one be unloaded; it is sent back at the carrier's cost.

What Anxin does: We do not release a booking for Damietta until the importer has sent the ACID number, and we check it appears on the bill of lading draft, invoice and packing list.

  5. Import country

CargoX uploads 48 hours before arrival

Egypt puts part of the clearance work on the Chinese exporter: a verified CargoX account and, for sea cargo, invoice, bill of lading, packing list and certificate of origin uploaded at least 48 hours before the ship reaches Damietta.

What Anxin does: We check with the shipper in Guangzhou that its CargoX account is verified before booking, and remind it to upload the document set as soon as the bill of lading is issued.

Documents & compliance

Documents to line up for Guangzhou → Damietta

Anxin reviews documents supplied by the shipper, manufacturer and importer; it does not issue test reports, safety data sheets or import certificates.

At the Guangzhou end

  • Packaging certificate and MSA cargo report cross-checked line by line (UN number, packaging code, quantity)
  • Transport-condition classification report where applicable
  • Load plan showing even weight distribution (no more than 60% of the cargo weight in either half of the container length)
  • ACID number from the importer, printed on B/L draft, invoice and packing list
  • Shipper's CargoX account verified; documents uploaded 48 h before arrival

For the shipping line

  • Routing (Red Sea or Cape) and any war-risk surcharge stated on the booking
  • Condition statement: new, used, damaged/defective (SP376) or for recycling (SP377)
  • UN 38.3 test summary for every cell and battery type

For the importer in Egypt

  • Broker's power of attorney or Nafeza e-authorisation
  • Importers Register status (GOEIC)

Most delays on this route start with a document that exists but does not match: a UN number, a model name or a package count that differs between the Guangzhou filings, the carrier booking and the Egypt import file. We check the three against each other before the booking is confirmed.

Carriers we book with

Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.

Questions

Guangzhou → Damietta: questions we are asked

Register and be verified on CargoX, then upload the invoice, bill of lading, packing list and certificate of origin at least 48 hours before the vessel arrives.

Often: in September 2026, 57% of Asia–Mediterranean services used the Red Sea routing. Bab el-Mandeb was rated a SUBSTANTIAL threat by the JMIC on 24 September 2026, so we confirm each service's routing before booking.

Nansha MSA has recommended around 25% for ESS batteries and measures against accidental activation. Treat it as the local authority's recommendation; the carrier's own acceptance conditions also apply.
