From Guangzhou to Digby, cargo moves through Guangzhou's Nansha terminals, which since September 2026 accept Dongguan-inspected battery boxes without a second check, crosses a Pacific crossing and a Panama Canal transit, and is discharged at the port of Digby.

On the Canadian side the carrier's eManifest is due before loading and the road leg follows TDG conditions. This page sets out 6 points specific to this route, how Anxin handles each one and which documents to prepare.

What we need to start

  • Nansha export
  • Dongguan–Nansha one-box
  • eManifest cut-off
  • CARM account

Route profile

How Guangzhou → Digby differs from other lanes

Sea corridor

Asia – Americas via the Panama Canal

Gatun Lake levels set how much a ship can load through Panama; the Caribbean leg then crosses hurricane waters from June to November.

Import country

Canada

Container data due 24 hours before loading, CARM security for release before payment, and a road leg that accepts IMDG papers under Canadian conditions.

Where this route gets difficult

Where Guangzhou → Digby shipments get held up: 6 points

In the order the cargo meets them: at the loading port, at sea, at Digby and at customs in Canada.

  1. Origin port

Customs and MSA now compare packaging certificates

In September 2026 Dongguan Customs and Dongguan MSA started sharing dangerous-goods packaging certificate data, described as a first in China, together with joint action against concealed and false declarations; Huangpu Customs also runs a joint 'lithium batteries going overseas' service against misdeclaration. A packaging certificate that does not match the MSA filing is now visible to both agencies.

What Anxin does: We check that the UN number, packaging code and quantities on the packaging certificate are exactly those on the MSA cargo report before either is submitted.

  2. Origin port

Typhoon weeks at the Pearl River mouth

The Hong Kong Observatory puts the region's tropical cyclone season from June to October, busiest July to September. Nansha sits at the mouth of the Pearl River; a closed gate or a changed vessel means the DG filings and the packing certificate have to follow the box to a new sailing.

What Anxin does: From June to October we leave slack between stuffing and the DG cut-off at Nansha and refile quickly if the vessel changes.

  3. Sea corridor

Hurricane season on the Caribbean side

The Atlantic hurricane season, covering the Caribbean and the Gulf of America, runs from 1 June to 30 November, peaking around 10 September, with an average of 14 named storms. Ports on the way to Digby close ahead of storms, and ships wait or divert.

What Anxin does: For August–October arrivals we build slack into delivery plans and pass the carrier's revised arrival straight to your consignee.

  4. Import country

    Nova Scotia's household battery stewardship

Nova Scotia requires producers of household batteries under 5 kg to run or join an approved stewardship program. Since 1 July 2024 brand owners fund and manage it, and retailers may not sell batteries from brand owners who are not in a program.

What Anxin does: For household batteries arriving at Digby for Nova Scotia retail, we ask whether the brand owner participates in the approved program before booking.

  5. Import country

eManifest: cargo data 24 hours before loading in Guangzhou

The CBSA requires marine carriers to transmit cargo and conveyance data for containers at least 24 hours before loading at the foreign port, including the estimated loading time. If the data are amended electronically before departure, the 24-hour count starts again from the CBSA's acknowledgement, so a late correction can push a box for Digby off its vessel.

What Anxin does: We send the carrier the final cargo description, UN number, weights and consignee details before the cut-off in Guangzhou and avoid amendments after the filing.

  6. Import country

English and French on consumer labels

Canada's consumer packaging rules require most mandatory label information on prepackaged consumer products in both English and French. Only the dealer's name and address may be in one language, and imported goods that do not state their origin need 'imported by / importé par' before it.

What Anxin does: For retail-packed goods going to Digby, we check the carton and retail-box artwork for the bilingual text before production is packed.

Match the details first

We line up UN numbers, model names and package counts across the Guangzhou filings, the booking with the carrier and the documents for Canada before the booking is confirmed, so that a mismatch is fixed at origin rather than discovered at Digby.

Carriers we book with

Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.

Questions

Guangzhou → Digby: questions we are asked

Only if the importer is enrolled in release prior to payment with financial security posted in the CARM Client Portal. Since 20 May 2025, importers without security pay duties and taxes at release.

It can. In September 2026 the Panama Canal Authority postponed a planned draft cut in the Neopanamax locks because of Gatun Lake levels (advisory A-33-2026). We check the advisory in force when quoting.

Nansha MSA has recommended around 25% for ESS batteries and measures against accidental activation. Treat it as the local authority's recommendation; the carrier's own acceptance conditions also apply.
