From Dalian to Yanbu, cargo moves through Dayaowan, crosses an approach through Bab-el-Mandeb into one of the world's warmest seas, and is discharged at the port of Yanbu.
On the Saudi side every consignment needs its own SABER shipment certificate and Arabic-language labels. The 5 points below are particular to this lane; each comes with what we do and the paperwork it touches.
What we need to start
Route profile
North-east China's battery gateway at Dayaowan, with a small but growing lithium export flow, a local MSA that has named misdeclaration as its main problem, and both winter ice and spring fog.
The drawn corridor enters the Red Sea through Bab-el-Mandeb, where Saudi-linked shipping was being threatened in September 2026, and ends in one of the warmest seas in the world.

Where this route gets difficult
Loading port first, then the sea leg, then Yanbu and the Saudi Arabia market.
Sea ice forms every winter in the Bohai Sea and northern Yellow Sea. In winter 2021/22 China's marine forecast centre expected floating ice about 15 nautical miles out in the northern Yellow Sea, where Dalian's Dayaowan lies, and about 60 in Liaodong Bay, peaking from mid-January to mid-February.
What Anxin does: For January–February sailings from Dalian we allow extra time between stuffing and the DG cut-off and reconfirm the vessel schedule the week before loading.
The China Meteorological Administration describes sea fog as a major marine hazard in the Yellow and Bohai Seas, with the season mainly from April to July, seriously affecting sea transport. Fog holds keep vessels at anchor, and a late vessel can push the box past its documented sailing.
What Anxin does: In the fog season we avoid tight stuffing-to-cut-off gaps and keep the filing data ready to amend if the vessel changes.
Yanbu is reached only through the Red Sea: either through Bab-el-Mandeb from the south or round Africa and down through Suez. After Houthi attacks on southern Saudi Arabia in September 2026, including Aramco facilities at Jazan, and a declared 'maritime embargo', container lines were choosing their Red Sea calls selectively, and many ships switched off AIS.
What Anxin does: We ask each carrier how it currently reaches Yanbu (through Bab-el-Mandeb on the same vessel, via a transhipment hub, or from the north via Suez) and name that routing, and any war-risk or emergency surcharge the carrier applies, in the written quote.
Saudi manifest rules now bite before the vessel reaches Yanbu: data due in FASAH 72 hours ahead for long-haul arrivals (since October 2025), and from May 2026 a 6-digit HS code, cargo size and the dangerous-goods details on every import manifest, or it is rejected.
What Anxin does: We give the carrier the 6-digit HS code, the UN number and class, packages and weights at booking, so the manifest filed for Yanbu is complete well before the 72-hour point.
The importer, or its broker, must complete the FASAH customs declaration with the required documents at least 48 hours before the shipment reaches Yanbu. ZATCA asks for the commercial invoice, bill of lading and certificate of origin, plus product-specific documents such as the SABER certificates, so these have to be final while the ship is still at sea.
What Anxin does: We send the final invoice, packing list, bill of lading copy and certificate of origin to the importer's broker as soon as the ship sails from Dalian, so the 48-hour FASAH filing is not waiting on documents.

Documents & compliance
Test reports, safety data sheets and import certificates come from the shipper, factory and importer, not from Anxin; our part is to review them before booking.

Most delays on this route start with a document that exists but does not match: a UN number, a model name or a package count that differs between the Dalian filings, the carrier booking and the Saudi Arabia import file. We check the three against each other before the booking is confirmed.
Carriers we book with
Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.
Risk & mitigation
| Risk | Where | Mitigation | Who acts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fog hold delays the vessel; filings need amending | Yellow Sea, Apr–Jul | Amendment-ready filing data | Anxin with the declarant |
| Ice delays berthing in mid-winter | Northern Yellow Sea, Jan–Feb | Extra time before cut-off; schedule reconfirmed | Carrier, monitored by Anxin |
| Security situation changes the routing or suspends calls | Bab-el-Mandeb / southern Red Sea | Routing confirmed per booking; alternatives via transhipment discussed before cargo is ready | Carrier, tracked by Anxin |
| Manifest rejected or fined for missing HS code or DG details | FASAH / Saudi port of discharge | Complete DG and HS data passed to the carrier at booking | Carrier, with data from Anxin |
Questions
No. The product certificate covers the model; each consignment also needs its own shipment certificate issued through SABER. We ask for the product certificate before booking and remind the importer to request the shipment certificate once the invoice and packing list are final.
The JMIC rated the Gulf of Aden SUBSTANTIAL in September 2026, with piracy and attacks a strong possibility, and four merchant vessels hijacked off Somalia in 2026 were still held. We confirm the carrier's routing and security surcharges at each booking.
Sea ice forms every winter in the northern Yellow Sea; in 2021/22 it was forecast to reach about 15 nautical miles out there, peaking mid-January to mid-February. We plan extra time for those weeks.
