From Dalian to Szczecin, cargo moves from Liaoning through Dalian's Dayaowan terminals, crosses a Suez-or-Cape voyage that ends with the Danish straits and the Baltic, and is discharged at the port of Szczecin.

Poland expects the importer to hold a BDO register entry for batteries. This page sets out 5 points specific to this route, how Anxin handles each one and which documents to prepare.

What we need to start

  • Dalian Dayaowan export
  • Winter ice & spring fog
  • EU declaration of conformity
  • BDO number
  • Polish-language safety information

Route profile

How Dalian → Szczecin differs from other lanes

Origin port

Dalian (Dayaowan)

North-east China's battery gateway at Dayaowan, with a small but growing lithium export flow, a local MSA that has named misdeclaration as its main problem, and both winter ice and spring fog.

Sea corridor

Asia – Baltic via the Danish straits

The Baltic is reached only through the Danish straits, where deep-draught ships are advised to take pilots, and its northern ports set ice-class restrictions every winter.

Where this route gets difficult

5 pain points from Dalian to Szczecin

Listed from loading in Dalian to import into Poland, each with what we do about it.

  1. Origin port

A smaller flow under the new ship-carriage standard

Liaoning's first lithium battery export under JT/T 1543 sailed from Dayaowan on 4 May 2025, and Dalian MSA counted 885 TEU of lithium batteries exported in the first four months of that year. Carriers should not accept batteries that do not meet JT/T 1543, and with a thinner flow there are fewer sailings to fall back on if a booking is refused.

What Anxin does: We check JT/T 1543 conformity evidence with the manufacturer before booking and confirm the carrier's acceptance of the UN numbers in writing.

  2. Sea corridor

Suez or Cape before the Baltic even starts

Before the Danish straits, the voyage from Asia is the same as for North Europe: Sea-Intelligence data for September 2026 put Red Sea routing at 27% for North Europe services, so most boxes still go round the Cape of Good Hope, where SAMSA estimates about 35% of 2024's lost containers went overboard.

What Anxin does: We quote the Suez and Cape routings separately when both are offered and apply the CINS stuffing checks strictly on Cape sailings.

  3. Import country

The ICS2 entry summary is due before loading in Dalian

For Szczecin, EU security pre-filing happens at the other end of the voyage: the ICS2 entry summary must reach the system 24 hours before the container is loaded in Dalian. No filing means no loading, and a missing EORI number is enough to reject it.

What Anxin does: We collect the consignee's EORI number, an HS-level goods description and the house-bill parties at booking, and make sure the party filing the ENS has them before the Dalian cut-off.

  4. Import country

The importer's name and address on the battery

A battery entering Poland has to identify its importer: name, registered trade name or trade mark, postal address and a contact point belong on the battery itself, or on the packaging or accompanying document when the battery is too small. That text is fixed at the factory, not at Szczecin.

What Anxin does: We pass the Poland importer's name and address block to the manufacturer before the goods are packed in China and check carton or battery photos for it before loading.

  5. Import country

Due diligence on battery raw materials from August 2027

Regulation (EU) 2025/1561 pushed the Battery Regulation's due diligence duties for cobalt, lithium, nickel and natural graphite back to 18 August 2027 and gave the Commission until 26 July 2026 for its guidelines. Buyers in Poland are already collecting the supply-chain information they will need.

What Anxin does: We pass the Poland buyer's due diligence questions to the manufacturer and keep their answers with the shipment file; the policy itself remains the producer's responsibility.

Documents & compliance

Checklist for Dalian → Szczecin

These documents come from the shipper, the manufacturer and the importer. Anxin checks them against each other; it does not issue test reports, safety data sheets or import certificates.

In Dalian, before the box is loaded

  • JT/T 1543 conformity evidence from the manufacturer
  • Annex V safety documentation confirmed for stationary storage systems
  • Substance declaration covering mercury, cadmium and lead limits
  • Safety data sheet and dangerous goods safe-carriage declaration for the MSA cargo report
  • Customs packaging use-appraisal result for the dangerous goods packaging (with the maker's performance appraisal)

For the carrier and the voyage

  • Transhipment port, feeder operator and feeder DG acceptance named on the booking
  • UN 38.3 test summary for every cell and battery type
  • Dangerous goods declaration with UN number (3480 / 3481 / 3090 / 3091), proper shipping name and packing instruction (P903, or P908/P911 for damaged)

At the Poland end

  • Haulier in Poland briefed with UN number, class 9 and tunnel code (E) for the road leg
  • BDO registration number of the Polish importer

Before you book

One consistent file

A document that is present but inconsistent holds a booking as surely as a missing one: the UN number, model name or carton count reads differently in the Dalian export filings, the carrier booking and the Poland import papers. We compare all three before confirming space.

Carriers we book with

Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.

Questions

Questions about shipping from Dalian to Szczecin

ADR, which the EU applies to domestic journeys through Directive 2008/68/EC. UN 3480 is class 9, transport category 2, with tunnel restriction code (E).

Often, but it depends on the service. The Baltic is reached through the Danish straits, and we ask the carrier to name any transhipment port and confirm DG acceptance for each vessel.

Sea ice forms every winter in the northern Yellow Sea; in 2021/22 it was forecast to reach about 15 nautical miles out there, peaking mid-January to mid-February. We plan extra time for those weeks.
