Yellow Sea · East China Sea · Taiwan Strait · South China Sea · Sulu Sea · Celebes Sea · Makassar Strait · Java Sea
Lithium batteries for Banjarmasin go through Dayaowan, where Liaoning's first JT/T 1543 lithium export sailed in May 2025. On the way they face the monsoon-driven seas of Southeast Asia, and they arrive at the port of Banjarmasin.
On the Indonesian side the importer's approvals matter: SNI for primary cells and an import approval for used batteries. Below are 5 route-specific points to plan for, what we do about each, and the documents to have ready before booking.
What we need to start
Route profile
North-east China's battery gateway at Dayaowan, with a small but growing lithium export flow, a local MSA that has named misdeclaration as its main problem, and both winter ice and spring fog.
Arrival notice and manifest before unloading, SNI for primary batteries, and controlled imports for anything used.

Where this route gets difficult
They run from the Dalian terminal through the voyage to Banjarmasin and the Indonesia import file.
According to Dayaowan MSA in April 2024, lithium battery cargo was often under-declared or misdeclared because the rules are complicated. It responded with a dedicated desk and hotline, priority for EV batteries, and AI-based document comparison intended to reduce container openings, which means any mismatch between the declaration and its supporting papers gets flagged.
What Anxin does: We reconcile the UN number, classification, packing group, quantity and SDS across every document before filing, which is exactly what an automated comparison will test.
The China Meteorological Administration describes sea fog as a major marine hazard in the Yellow and Bohai Seas, with the season mainly from April to July, seriously affecting sea transport. Fog holds keep vessels at anchor, and a late vessel can push the box past its documented sailing.
What Anxin does: In the fog season we avoid tight stuffing-to-cut-off gaps and keep the filing data ready to amend if the vessel changes.
Routes from northern China to Banjarmasin go through the Taiwan Strait, whose funnel effect makes winds 1-2 Beaufort levels stronger than outside. In winter and spring the north-east monsoon brings force 7 or more on about two-thirds of days, which is hard on a load that has not been braced.
What Anxin does: We ask for blocking and bracing photos before the container is closed in Dalian, checked against the CINS stuffing guidance for lithium batteries.
The Barito channel to Banjarmasin has an outer bar of about 6 m, and at low tide only about 5 m draft is available, so ships work to tide windows. Containers for Banjarmasin usually come on smaller vessels, and a missed window adds waiting time.
What Anxin does: We ask the carrier how the service reaches Banjarmasin and whether a tide-related delay is likely, and pass that to the consignee.
Permendag 25/2021 lists goods that must carry Indonesian-language labels when sold in Indonesia. Whether a battery product going to Banjarmasin is on the list should be checked by the importer before the retail packaging is printed.
What Anxin does: For retail-packed goods we ask the importer to confirm the labelling requirement before production is packed in Dalian.

Documents & compliance
These documents come from the shipper, the manufacturer and the importer. Anxin checks them against each other; it does not issue test reports, safety data sheets or import certificates.

We line up UN numbers, model names and package counts across the Dalian filings, the booking with the carrier and the documents for Indonesia before the booking is confirmed, so that a mismatch is fixed at origin rather than discovered at Banjarmasin.
Carriers we book with
Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.
Risk & mitigation
| Risk | Where | Mitigation | Who acts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Declaration flagged by document comparison; container opened | Dayaowan | Cross-document reconciliation before filing | Anxin with the declarant |
| Fog hold delays the vessel; filings need amending | Yellow Sea, Apr–Jul | Amendment-ready filing data | Anxin with the declarant |
Questions
Primary batteries have needed SNI certification and marking since 20 May 2025. Lithium-ion packs should be checked by the importer against the current SNI list.
From about November to March the north-east monsoon brings rough seas in the southern South China Sea. It rarely stops sailings, but it tests the stowage, so bracing matters more.
Dayaowan MSA reported in 2024 that omissions and misdeclarations of lithium battery cargo were frequent because the rules are complex, and it uses AI document comparison. Consistent data across the declaration, SDS and packing documents is the main defence.
