Asia – Mediterranean via Suez
Mediterranean services are the ones most likely to use Suez again (57% in September 2026), which puts the cargo back through Bab el-Mandeb, rated a SUBSTANTIAL threat.

Lithium batteries for East Port Said go from Liaoning through Dalian's Dayaowan terminals. On the way they face a Bab el-Mandeb and Suez passage into the Mediterranean, and they arrive at the port of East Port Said.
On the Egyptian side the ACI system needs the exporter on CargoX and the documents uploaded before the ship arrives. Below are 6 route-specific points to plan for, what we do about each, and the documents to have ready before booking.
What we need to start
Route profile
Mediterranean services are the ones most likely to use Suez again (57% in September 2026), which puts the cargo back through Bab el-Mandeb, rated a SUBSTANTIAL threat.
An ACID number from Nafeza before the cargo leaves China, CargoX document uploads 48 hours before arrival, and a new Importers Register regime since July 2026.

Where this route gets difficult
In the order the cargo meets them: at the loading port, at sea, at East Port Said and at customs in Egypt.
Sea fog is one of the main marine hazards of the Yellow and Bohai Seas according to the China Meteorological Administration, concentrated between April and July and with a serious effect on shipping. A vessel held at anchor by fog can arrive late enough to push a box beyond the sailing its documents name.
What Anxin does: In the fog season we avoid tight stuffing-to-cut-off gaps and keep the filing data ready to amend if the vessel changes.
The Bohai Sea and the northern Yellow Sea freeze every winter. For 2021/22 China's marine forecast centre expected floating ice around 15 nautical miles offshore in the northern Yellow Sea, where Dayaowan is, and around 60 in Liaodong Bay, with the peak between mid-January and mid-February.
What Anxin does: For January–February sailings from Dalian we allow extra time between stuffing and the DG cut-off and reconfirm the vessel schedule the week before loading.
The 43% of Mediterranean services not using the Red Sea sail round the Cape of Good Hope, then back through Gibraltar. SAMSA estimates about 200 of the 576 containers lost at sea in 2024 went overboard near the Cape, 35% of the year's total.
What Anxin does: On Cape sailings we apply the CINS blocking and bracing checks strictly on stuffing photos before sealing.
For East Port Said, the 19-digit ACID number is generated by the Egyptian importer on Nafeza before departure and printed on the bill of lading and every other shipping document. Egyptian Customs does not let cargo without one be unloaded; it is sent back at the carrier's cost.
What Anxin does: We do not release a booking for East Port Said until the importer has sent the ACID number, and we check it appears on the bill of lading draft, invoice and packing list.
Since 22 July 2026 the Importers Register runs under Decree No. 271 of 2026: GOEIC decides within 15 days of a complete file, filing is going online, and foreign-owned companies have a limited, time-bound route in.
What Anxin does: We ask the Egyptian buyer to confirm its Importers Register status before we book the container for East Port Said.
Egyptian customs accepts a broker for a private importer only with a power of attorney registered at the Real Estate Registry or an e-authorisation on Nafeza, required by Customs Law No. 207 of 2020.
What Anxin does: We ask the importer which broker will clear the container and whether its Nafeza authorisation is in place before the ship arrives.

Documents & compliance
Test reports, safety data sheets and import certificates come from the shipper, factory and importer, not from Anxin; our part is to review them before booking.

Most delays on this route start with a document that exists but does not match: a UN number, a model name or a package count that differs between the Dalian filings, the carrier booking and the Egypt import file. We check the three against each other before the booking is confirmed.
Carriers we book with
Our booking panel; availability on this lane and acceptance of the declared UN numbers are confirmed for each booking. It does not mean that a listed carrier runs a direct service on this route. Carrier choice depends on the trade lane, cargo classification and each carrier's dangerous-goods acceptance at booking. The final carrier is confirmed on the booking.
Risk & mitigation
| Risk | Where | Mitigation | Who acts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ice delays berthing in mid-winter | Northern Yellow Sea, Jan–Feb | Extra time before cut-off; schedule reconfirmed | Carrier, monitored by Anxin |
| Fog hold delays the vessel; filings need amending | Yellow Sea, Apr–Jul | Amendment-ready filing data | Anxin with the declarant |
| Heavy weather off South Africa on a Cape sailing | Cape of Good Hope | CINS stuffing checks | Packing site, checked by Anxin |
| Cargo not unloaded and re-shipped for a missing ACID | Egyptian port of discharge | ACID checked on the B/L draft before release | Importer / Anxin |
Questions
A 19-digit number the Egyptian importer obtains on Nafeza before the shipment departs; it must be on the bill of lading and all shipping documents, or the cargo is not unloaded.
Often: in September 2026, 57% of Asia–Mediterranean services used the Red Sea routing. Bab el-Mandeb was rated a SUBSTANTIAL threat by the JMIC on 24 September 2026, so we confirm each service's routing before booking.
Sea ice forms every winter in the northern Yellow Sea; in 2021/22 it was forecast to reach about 15 nautical miles out there, peaking mid-January to mid-February. We plan extra time for those weeks.
